No, in fact, just the opposite. After shaving, I apply a SMALL amount of shea butter on my face and use 1 or 2 hot towel applications and then I'm good to go!

Try alot and you will find out what you like the best.

I am sure the gentlemen at straight razor designs and vintage blades can hook you up with other great recommendations. There are so many.

    bjanzen,

You may want to try the following store link to shop around for ASB. They have frequent internet sales on various items.

+1 and try The Gentlemens Refinery's The Classic ASB before you're done. That's my personal favorite. I'd take it over CF any day. I'm not aware of any samples of this stuff, but you can get a travel size.

GFT Coral Skin Food is a good one.

TAOS balms are a little spendy, but good (they work extremely well for some, and cause irritation for others. seems to be case by case. they work well for me.)

I've found that dermatologists usually have great balms that they sell as well.

Currently I rock half the usual amount of GFT Coral Skin Food and then finish with "Rosewater & Glycerin" by Heritage Products. It doesn't look like it can do the job, but man does it soothe and protect the skin. It can be found in natural/organic supermarkets such as Whole Foods for about $8. The pure rosweater by Heritage is good, but the rosewater and glycerin is incredible.

anywho, good luck. good balms are such a nice score.
