It's basically a type of salt.

Apply to a wet face. Just wipe the block of alum all over. Allow to dry and then wipe off with a damp cloth. Although some might say to just leave it on.

It is an astringent (closes pores) and antispetic (kills bacteria)

Tastes like crap so be careful not to get it on your lips.

That was exactly what I was looking for. That wiki is always very informative. Thank you Tony B.

If you get it make sure you get the Potassium Alum and not the Ammonium Alum. The ammonium type is what they use in deodorant and can burn like the dickens.

Nonsense. In this part of the country we make our own aftershave using battery acid as a base. It closes up those nicks real fast. Want me to send you some?

Battery acid? How bizarre. Rationale being you want an 8 in the "burn" section of the reviews, right next to Nivea baby balm?

Anyhow, sure, we can trade. I'll send you some east German military issue metal polish. Try using that without a respirator mask, safety goggles, and latex gloves...
