Thanked: 1are all bay rums like this?
I got a bottle of Lustray bay rum, and for the most part I really like it.
However, it leaves a residue that is mostly unnoticeable except for the terrible, terrible taste. I try to prevent any of it from getting on my lips, but I seem to always get a taste of it at some point. Is this a characteristic of all bay rums, or is it because this brand uses denatured alcohol (I assume it uses denatured alcohol). Are there any bay rum brands that do not use denatured alcohol or do not leave a terrible tasting residue?

Most of the bay rums (I have tried about 10 different brands) I have tried didn't have what you talk about. But my favorite, St. John's, does, and I have to be aware to wipe off my lips before exiting the bathroom. No biggie in my estimation, but the taste is like earwax. Yuck!!

Haven't tried that brand but I've rarely had that problem. I shake a bit out on the fingers of my left hand, put the bottle down and get the mix on my right hand and then slap it on my shave area staying away from my lips. Once in a blue moon I've gotten some on the taste buds but rarely. Do it with more attention to avoiding the lips.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 23All commercially available bay rums will use some type of denatured alcohol, but there are different denaturants, so the tast you are refering to may be a byproduct of the specific denatured alcohol used in this brand. Is the denatured alcohol identified in the ingredients list. If so, look it up and see what denaturant is used.
One commonly used denaturant is extremely bitter, and this may be what you have.

as a general rule.. most every personal hygiene product tastes bad.. that's why the bottle will normally say "external use only"..

Ear wax?
Hopefully this will be the first and last thread involving dietary ear wax. Ugh. (Mine tastes a lot like toenails.)

Thanked: 1195Sorry, but you do realize that bay rum isn't actual rum, like the kind you mix with Coke?
On a serious note, I've used bay rum many times and never got a taste of it so I can't really relate. Just being a smartass....

Yuk...Sound like a pretty bad taste.
Sorry, I can't be of any assistance. I never let any of my aftershaves, including bay rum, come in contact ith my lips. I only apply them to my face and neck."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain
