    Lightbulb Witch Hazel Wipes!

    So I was over at B&B and came across this,

    Bob has a great idea , but I modified it slightly.

    I thought I would share the idea over here. Hope that's kosher.
    I picked up a plastic canister of 70% alcohol wipes from the local pharmacy ($1.50 on sale 40ct). I removed the top and the roll of wipes and let them sit out (in a safe place) for a couple of days. Once dry I put the roll back in the canister and added about 1/2 of a bottle of Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel. Put the cap on gave it a shake and let it sit over night.
    The wipes are great and very convenient.
    I went with the alcohol wipes for 3 reasons, I like the canister, baby wipes have other "stuff" in them, and they are cheaper than the 60ct Thayers pads.

    Only draw back is SHMBO found out what they are and I ran out quicker than expected. I need to get her a box of her own and hide mine.

    Post dictated but not read.

    Default Witch Hazel Wipes

    Hello, TeMpTin:

    That is a creative way of working with witch hazel wipes.

    I am curious, though: why not just use an application of witch hazel from the bottle?

    Regards,
    Obie

    That's is a good idea, especially nice with the extra scent. FWIW, your local pharmacy probably already carries plain witch hazel towlettes, or can get them. They are often used for wound care at hospitals and also for hemorrhoid treatment!

    +1 I actually enjoy squirting the witch hazel right out of the bottle into my cupped palm and then slobbering witch hazel all over my face! i especially like it when it froths up on my skin and then I let it soak in whilst I vigorously rub the brilliantine into my hair. Oh I can't wait until tomorrow so I can do it all over again!

    @Obie
    I do sometimes still do a splash from the bottle.
    I like to use the WH on my whole face not just the shaved areas, the wipe allows for more control of application. I know the Thayers I am not using does not have alcohol how ever I am not keen to see how it feels in my eyes.

    I feel like the wipes help remove more lather residue then splashing.
    Also I believe less of the product ends up in the sink and more on my face.

    @CrazyCloud
    I did take a quick look around to see if there was something like that but the store brand has the same problem of "Stuff"

    CVS Hemorrhoidal Relief Medicated Pads
    Active Ingredient: Witch Hazel (50% V/V). Inactive Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Alcohol (7% V/V), Sodium Citrate, Propylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propyl Paraben.
    Dickinson's makes a Daily Facial Towelettes
    20ct for $5 and they are 14% alcohol.

    The homemade Thayers wipes may not be the cheapest but I get to control whats in them. I did the math and if I buy right I can make a 40ct can of wipes for ~$5-8.
    The 60ct Thayers brand pads I believe are smaller, contain alcohol, and go for ~$7-8 plus shipping.

    Sounds like you figured out how to get the best of both worlds; save money and get them exactly the way you want them! Nice work!

    Do the wipes ever catch on leftover stubble and 'string out'? Not that any of us ever have any little patches of whiskers left...

    When I have done a quick shave if I wipe ATG they drag a touch.
    However unlike SHMBO's cotton squares they hold together. The cotton when I have used them fall apart. I much prefer moist towelette size durability.

    I love natural solutions, especially when it comes to topical solutions. Sometimes, though it's not enough and you need to augment it with something more 'potent'... just don't overdo it.
