    Default Day After Razor Burn

For the remainder of the day after a good morning shave, my face is as smooth as a baby's butt dipped in olive oil. BUT, the next morning, all heck breaks loose. Is this because I am still using my Mach 3 (my first SR's are still in transit,) and there is damage being done that does not materialize till the next day? Will a SR solve this?

Its possible, cartridges generally require some pressure to work whereas straights work better with little to no pressure. It is also possible that you are damaging your face elsewhere with exfolliating, chemicals (canned goo)... How is your weather? Cold, wind? Drying. Even with the higher humidity of Florida you can still have trouble.

It is cold for Florida, but nothing out of the ordinary. And I don't do anything out of the ordinary with my face that I haven't done for the last few years or so. But some days it seems like instead of growing stubble I grow tiny little mountains of pain on my neck.

If I'm going to get irritation it will not be right after shaving, it's the next day (around 24 hours later). It is true that using a straight will cut down irritation compared to a mach 3, but there are other factors as well. For me the main culprits are shaving ATG in areas that won't tolerate it, and using too many strokes over a given spot.

The best thing to do is give your face some healing time for a day or two. Shaving over irritated skin will only cause pain and prolong the redness. I also recommend The Body Shop's maca root face protector, which seems to help speed up the healing process

Caswell-Massey No. Six or Newport helps too.

Thanks guys. It seems to be a bit better today. I paid very close attention to my strokes and I think that on certain parts of my neck I was actually going XTG on the first pass without realizing it - and I think that contributed it most of it. I changed my angle to WTG and even the bumps I shaved over seem to be pleased.

I just began straight razing a month ago. I messed up my first razor with bad stropping and had to send it in for a new edge. I ordered a second razor to use in the meantime, but I had a day or two while the second razor was in transit. So I got desparate and used my disposable razor and have never had more razorburn in my life. It also happened the next day and was terrible. I vowed to never shave with one again! Once you get the straightrazor shaving down you're gonna love it.
