Witch hazel is an acquired smell. Most either love it or hate it. The Dickinson's is pretty good stuff for regular product before going with the super premium Thayers. The stuff in stores under their brands are just water down product, pretty worthless.

2 things to add here: First, just a word on: Humphrey's Alcohol free. I swear by it.
Second: Alcohol free!!! If you have a drying issue, do without the alcohol.
That's it for me!!!
Happy shaving,
M-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --

picked up some Thayer's original witch hazel from whole foods a few days ago. i feel that my skin is softer post-shave now. i think it's making a difference but it does seem to make my AS balm sting a little. i don't mind it, but some might.

Scent aside, what is the "performance" difference between Witch Hazel and an Alum Block? I use an Alum block and never tried Witch Hazel. Not interested in using both really so I'm wondering if one is a suitable replacement of the other.
