Thanked: 1185My routine:
1. Final Pass Complete
2. Face wash with excess cream or soap from the mug and/or milked out of the brush
3. Cold Water Rinse
4. Dampen Alum Block and apply to wet face
5. Let alum dry down while I brush my teeth
6. Cold Water Rinse to remove excess alum (my face is normally good and tight at this point)
7. Apply Nivea ASB and Aftershave du jour
8. Let dry down while I clean up the area and give the razor 50 laps on the strop
9. Apply cologne or other finish (if desired)The older I get, the better I was

Gentlemen:
My experiment of leaving the alum on lasted only two shaves. After that I returned to my well established routine of rinsing the face with tepid water after the shave, applying moistened alum and then rinsing it off about a minute or so later with cold water. Witch hazel, aftershave balm and finally aftershave lotion followed at various intervals. If it ain't broke . . .
Regards,
Obie

I left alum on my face once...once!! I found that as the day went on and I began to sweat it caused a burning sensation. I do what most here do, apply the alum, cold water rinse etc.
