Ingrown Hair and TendSkin
I have only shaved with a straight about 5 time now. From the start I had good results very lil razor burn almost none, 1 minor cut that my trusty alum block helped. The only problem that I do have is this nasty ingrown hair lol. My lovely wife keeps pointing it out and saying its because of the straight razor hoping it would make me stop buying them lol no such luck for her. Aftershe figured it was no use she showed me Tend Skin. She claims to have used it before and should work on helping ingrown hairs. So my question is has any one tested this on their face? I truly hope she only used it on her legs lol.

Tend skin is the best stuff I have found to fight ingrown hairs , razor burn and work great as an after shave by itself. I have actually been meaning to do a post about this product. For me no matter what I do my neck gets irritated doesn't matter if I shave or not being to aggressive while washing my neck can cause it to get irritated. I think this is a lot from using a cart for along time and just figuring this is how it should be. Straight Shaving has done a lot for me in this department. Since starting straight shaving its gone from my whole neck to just certain spots on my neck and in time may clear it up completely. . But till then and most likely after that I will be using Tend Skin. For ingrown hairs you want to use it after each shave and then again at night, after you have washed your neck thoroughly, till the ingrown hair has gone. Once the ingrown hair has gone away you can probably stop using it but I kept on using it both night and day on my neck. Now after a shave I will use it everywhere I shaved. Like alum and styptic if you cause some irritation or razor burn it will sting like hell for a few minutes but then all the pain will go away. This product is also quick drying so no waiting forever for it go away. Now if I stop here after my shave my face will feel great and well moisturized with nothing else put on my face. But since I like my Aqua Velva I normally do a splash of this after the Tend Skin. Though at night I wash and normally just do my neck with the Tend skin and I can really tell the difference between my neck being moisturized and the rest of my face not being.
If your wife didn't give you the roll on applicator part I would suggest getting it cause it does help conserve the product and make it quite cheap overall as you can use for a long time before having to refill it.Last edited by Castel33; 04-25-2011 at 11:41 PM.

Thanked: 39i've had the opposite experience. When I used MACH 3's I always got nasty ingrown hairs all over my chin. Since switching to straights, and DE's, a couple of months ago I haven't had another ingrown hair.
When I did have them, the best remedy for me was to (carefully) pull them out with sharp tweezers.

My experience has found that shaving with a straight razor or a de razor actually reduced the occurrence of ingrown hairs as well as razor burn.
I think it was becauseof the entire pre and post-shave ritual of beard preparation that actually did so, but my ingrown hair problem has disappeared."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

I used to get real bad ingrown hairs all the time when using a multiblade cartridge razor. Moving to a straight was a good thing for me. Recently, I let my beard grow from November until April and I shaved. I got one ingrown hair from that on my neck and I still can't get that joker. Just an ugly red spot but it won't go away and I know it is a hair. I want to dig for it but I know that will just make it worse because I can't see the hair yet.

Man, I hate the ingrown hairs.. My first couple of shaves using soap and my old razor (hadn't gotten my straight yet, but was preparing for it) left me with a bad one. As someone stated above, my wife tried to use it to get me to give up on straight razor's, but it didn't work, hehe.
but, I've just ordered the roll on Tend mentioned. I've been searching for something and this sounds like the perfect fit for me!!
Thanks mates!!-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --

Thanks for posting up the Q and the Info guys. This is the issue that drove me away from cartridges. It didn't matter how many blades they had, or what cream, foam, gel, or oil I used. No AS, light AS, ASB, I still had problems. So far, if my blade is keen my neck clears up. As soon as it begins to dull the ingrowns start showing back up. I'll have to check this stuff out.
Thanks again,

Thanked: 983Stone the crows! A yank who speaks 'Strine!
I used to get ingrowns with cart heads too. I still do, but no where near as often, or as many as I used to, and usually only then within a short time of using a DE. That I put down to poor technique more than anything else, as I don't use it as much as my C-T's.
