If you use a lot of the alum, it will leave a white mark on your face, thus requiring you to rinse with cold water after it dries. (Cold water to help close the pores.)

there are no rules, I shave before my shower and apply the Alum after shaving, leave it on while I clean my mess and dry my blade then rinse it up in the shower.

What I do is rinse with hot and then cold water, apply the alum to my wet face which I let semi-dry while I do some cleanup. I then rinse off the alum with another cold water rinse. Any skin drying effects are cancelled out by my subsequent application of Trumpers Skin Food and my daily after shave of choice.

Everybody pretty much covered that for ya. You can also wet your fingers and then rub the alum block, and now your fingers wont slip while you are stretching your skin, just like velcro.

That's what I use after every shave too. Good stuff, indeed. Its a small, convenient size that is really user friendly (as opposed to alum in puck form) and leaves your face feeling great.

I use Osma alum block almost after every shave. I rinse my face with cold water after shave and rub alum block over the face. I leave it at the face untill I wash my den and after that I rinse off traces of alum and aply AS.

After alum, I rinse with cold water to help close the pores and give a cool feel on the face. Just personal preference. No matter how careful I am I seem to get a nick right under my septum - long story short - applying alum on the upper lip, I end up tasting the alum and I agree with you guys it's no good

I use my alum block after every shave too.

After finishing my last pass, I rinse my face with warm water. I then run warm water over the alum block and rub the block over my skin. I then rinse with cold water. Dry with a towel and the follow up with some aftershave.
