Post shave I do a hot water wash, then cold water rinse, then apply trumpers skin food and cologne to my neck.
Pre shave I wet my face with hot water, lather up, strop, then wash my face again with hot water (or do a hot towel) then relather and shave.

Only being doing this for 4-5 months my routine changes as I learn more and discover things I like.
Currently my Post Shave Routine is
Warm Water rinse - A Truefit and Hill person said it was ideal to slowly cool skin down rather than blast of cold right off
Apply Alum Block to face - Using the Razorock product currently
Let dry for 2-3 minutes
Cold Water rinse/wash
Apply an aftershave Balm - Currently using Lloyds unscented
rub.massage in
Then a spash of Clubman Bay Rum or Booster Classic Ice Lime

My post-shave routine is much like what is described in the previous posts.
1. Warm water rinse to remove any remaining shaving soap/cream from my face.
2. Cold water rinse to close pores. Pat dry with towel.
3. Apply witch hazel to face. Allow to dry.
4. Apply small amount of aftershave balm or gel to face.
5. Finish with either an aftershave, cologne or Eau de Toilette for fragrance."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Cristophe,
The purpose of the pre-shave is to get your whiskers to soften and your pores to open. The purpose of the post-shave is to tone the skin, close the pores, and soothe the skin.
Generally, you'll want to 1.) apply cold water to face after shaving - it closes the pores and gets the lather off; 2.) apply some kind of toner(ie witch hazel or AS);
3.) apply some kind of moisturizer or balm, after your face dries. You are free stop at any point - it's all up to you.
Go forth and experiment and read the reviews.
Cheers!

When I have time
I like ice cold water to rince then with witch hazel I have infused with Lime EO, then the balm/skin food, let it set a few minutes and a nice big splash of a heavy alcoholed bay rum, Old spice, clubman, aqua velva etc.
when I dont
cold water rince (well as cold as you can get in AZ)
aftershave
that is all.

2. If I have red points or cuts, Alum
3. Floid "vigoroso", Myrsol or Thayers
4. Aloe Vera Gel (minimun 5 minutes on face before next step)

Like most others, my routine is pretty...well routine.
1) rinse face with cold water to remove excess cream/soap.
2) wipe face with witch hazel soaked cotton ball
3) rub in some "Udderly smooth" or corhuskers lotion to soften up my skin and moisturize.
4) finish off with a splash of Clubman...can't go wrong!
