Thanked: 0Using Whiskey as an aftershave?
Hey gang!
Picked up some "Whiskey" shaving soap from Portland General Store a while back (great stuff, if you're looking for something new). But I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried using good old Whiskey as an aftershave?
I've always followed up my straight shaves with witch-hazel or some Nivea aftershave, but I'm a sucker for something a little more old-fashioned. I can imagine that's what cowboys out west used to do for finishing up a shave.
Love to hear others thoughts...

Hmmmm, I would think the burn factor might be of some concern, that and showing up to work smelling like you just spent last night at the bar probably is not advisable. Give it a try this weekend and report back to us.
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

Whiskey belongs in your belly, not on your face.

Yeah whisky goes on the inside, aftershave goes on the outside!
Seriously though a good aftershave should contain things to condition the skin like glycerine, castor oil etcRegards

Thanked: 3I love this idea! I have joined just to sign up to this! I'm going to review a series of drinks as aftershaves.
Ok first off will be dark rum ( Captin Morgans ) then whisky ( Glenmorangie, burgundy wood finish single malt ) then Laphroaig ( single malt Islay v peaty, love the idea about it being astringent!) Then spiced rum, then I'll start on my Bourbon collection!
Right first one tomorrow.
Just two things- hobos don't really smell of rum etc, it is the stale effects afterwards and two the amount of alcohol in my rum is about the same as the aftershave I'm using. I'm going drive to work after but here in the UK we don't do sobriety tests just a breath test machine, the alcohol absorbed should be no different to any AS.
Will update tomorrow.

Thanked: 1371SD alcohol that's in many aftershaves is the same as the alcohol in your whiskey. It just has ingredients added so that it would be unpleasant to drink.
I am not sure how the concentration of alcohol would compare, you might need to dilute the whiskey.
There are recipes for making bay rum from real rum, you could probably use some of those as a starting point to figure out the concentration needed.
