    Default Bert's Bees Aftershave

Just picked up a tube of Bert's Bees Aftershave. In Publix Supermarket of all places! I really like the smell and I'm about to go try it out. I put a little bit on my hands and was surprised at how it was able to smooth out my palms. I'll edit this post in about an hour or so with results.

I'm breaking in a new toy that arrived in the mail last week; A Merkur Barber Pole DE which should be fun.

OK! Done! Loving the new DE. This will be my new "emergency" shaver and travel piece.

Bert's Bees is a success! I love the old-time smell that's left after the product dries and it does not burn at all, so I guess, no alcohol. When you first put the product on, it has a sharper citrusy smell that surprised me, compared to what I smelled when I put a bit on my hands, but that gives way to a "barber-shop" type smell later. I like it.

The only cons so far is that it leaves the hands feeling a little waxy, for lack of a better word. I don't want to say greasy or oily because it's not.

Also at 9 bucks, it's a little pricey but I have yet to compare it to more expensive products like Aveda, which will be my next purchase when I get a chance to go to the Aveda store here on South Beach. After that I will have better metrics for a fair price/performance comment.

    All in all, a winner!

Burt's bees has this cache as a higher end natural product so it's priced accordingly. I've tried their soap which I thought was terrible and the AS which I liked the scent of but did not like the product overall.

I have their shaving creme in a tube - no lather capabilities at all. I think it is more designed as a thin layer of lubricant for multi blade shavers... shame, since I do like the fact that they are all natural, and would like to encourage more manufacturers to offer "clean" and safe products. Oh, well...

Let's see what happens with Aveda. And also on the Walgreens front, I will be trying out more economical remedies like witchhazel (which I can't wait to try based on everything I have read) and Bay Rum.

Seeing as how my preshave routine only includes a hot shower and the initial newbie puck of Williams I am still going through, I can begin to see how one can get cuaght up in all the different combinations looking for that perfect blend of pre and post products!

    Fun!

I have a tube of their shaving cream and as davemillard points out it won't lather worth a damn.

After the abysmal performance of this 8 dollar tube I am really hesitant to spend on any of their other shaving products, but they do have some good stuff otherwise....

I agree with the lather. I use is as a pre-shave in the shower to soften my beard. Works for this pretty well.

I highly recommend skipping regular witch hazel and getting some Thayer's (some drug stores and most GNCs carry it). Regular witch hazel works, it just smells horrible. Thayers can be gotten in cucumber, lilac, and rose. It also has some aloe in it so it doesn't dry the skin.

Williams is awesome. It is still in my line up. ... It is the Red Imp of soaps.

Right you are! I got the witch hazel before I read this and wow does it smell like sadness and dissapointment. I really like the effect it has on my skin however, and even noticed it helped my scalp feel better... I may be saying "Goodbye" to Head and Shoulders if it proves to be consistently effective.

My CVS does not have Bay Rum or Thayers or at least I haven't looked hard enough. I will try again today.

I have to say that the "waxy" feeling I mentioned initially is rapidly becoming annoying. I have to wash my hands after I apply the product because they don't feel clean. I guess maybe it's supposed to be absorbed into the skin or something but after spending 10 - 15 minutes (happily) shaving I don't want to have to scrub my hands to get the waxy/oily feel off of them.

I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone say something positive about their shaving products. I've never seen them sold here in Edmonton (although we have the entire line of other skin care products), which is probably a good thing - prevents me from spending 'curiosity money' on crap.
