I think, often times we expect too much from these products. There are no miracles in a bottle to my knowledge and besides a little moisturizing most of these balms (I have found) tend to be greasy or leave some type of film behind which I don't like. In any case they don't do anything for me and I just use regular AS and if I need a moisturizer I get a specialized product made just to do that which I apply at night. I've used the lime and coral skinfood and yes it's smells nice but in the end I went back to the plain old AS types.

I like the coral and sandalwood and bought a 200 ml bottle of each. But for about $4 I took a bottle of Corn Huskers and dumped in a little sample size of GFT sandalwood cologne and transferred the stuff into a better squeeze bottle and you know what, it's really about as good as the very expensive Trumper product. The CH lotion must have a bit more glycerin as it's a bit stickier going on and for a couple minutes but then the face feel is pretty much the same. Both use guar gum which gives that "sealing" effect.
At my age nothing is going to make my skin look like it feels after a great shave but I like the GFT/CH lotion. However, I don't believe they're nearly as moisturizing as many of the other balms and creams out there like Lubriderm 3 in 1.

Thanked: 34I really tried to love this stuff, but it's been little use. I have never been allergic to anything, but the skin food make my face itchy as all hell when I use it. It's a shame really but i have plenty of other great balms I can use that i really enjoy.

I have the lime and just love the scent - it makes me want to hop on a plane for the Caribbean. I use it in rotation with Musgo Real ASB.

Thanked: 1Count me in with the non-fans of Trumpers Skin food. And I got the "itchies" from the Coral also. I'm with thebigspendur on this one. AS and seperate moisturizer if needed.

Thanked: 0so i got a question. in the product description for skin food (coral) it says its great for pre-shave for beard prep and such. but all i see on the forums are people using the product as a post shave balm or what have you . has any one had any luck with this product as a pre-shave treatment.

I've seen it described as well as a pre shave. Have not tried it myself, but I do not think it would compare to other pre shaves as that ie proraso etc.. It does not stay moist and seems to seal the skin. Does not really make sense to me how that would help with pre shave, but you are welcome to try...

Thanked: 1For how much skin food costs I can't see it being practical to use as pre-shave, nor do i feel given it's ability to seal the face, would it work very well in my opinion.
