I'm a GeoFatBoy fan so I followed his suggestion of Proraso Pre/Post Shave Cream followed by Proraso ASB. Yes I am a slave to Proraso. Once I'm out of the steamy bathroom my face feels like an ice cold winter day

Conditioning I don't get razor burn often now if at all.

Good answer. I will search for it.

The best ASB I've ever used by a wide margin is the L'Occitaine Cade. It's expensive, but it doesn't take much and it's incredibly soothing with a good scent. Well with every penny in my book. I've stopped looking for other balms since I've had this stuff.

I don't have a wide variety, but I have the CADE Balm, good stuff, a little girly on the smell. AOS balm unscented, really good stuff, 37 bucks a jar, but has lasted over a year. Proraso pre-post, which I only use pre, seems to break me out post, which is odd cause I absolutely must have this pre shave. Haven't tried the corn huskers, but 1OldGI says it's good. I think there was a good but cheap AS thread not too long ago...

Nivea works really well. It soothes the freshly exfoliated skin and keeps things from drying out. It is just the fragrance I really don't care for and smell isn't routinely an issue with me. I have read lots of good on Cade and will look for samples of it and the AOS.

Pre de Provence's ASB does a good job of conditioning with very subtle scent. It is pretty much the same scent as the soap so if you like that you will like the scent of the ASB.

+1 On this one. Its a great balm with a subtle scent which does not linger very long anyway.

Currently in rotation are in no particular order:
Nivea replenishing(I like it a bunch and the scent)
TOBS Sandalwood(slightly greasy and thick but fantastic)
    TOBS Jermyn street(amazing)
John Varvatos(GREAT smell and is good)
Edwin Jagger Sea Buckhorn(love it with mossy scents like MDC soap)
GFT sandalwood and limes(awesome and well priced)
Lubriderm 3 in 1(good stuff, cheap and scentless)
    Always adding more.

Do you need a balm to calm your face....?
If not let your face dry for 15 min and use
any light fragrance free face cream and a light
splash of Old Spice or what ever fragrance that works for you.

If you need a balm to calm your face
stay clear of fragrance. You can also take
two drops of mineral oil or Vaseline and rub that on
and 20 min later use almost any cologne.

Read the list of ingredients the key ones are
way too common, inexpensive and simple.
