Thread: Making AS from my fave cologne

Update:
I added viscous lidocaine, (the kind used for pre-stitches and pre-anesthetic injection numbing,) and found that the jelly had nearly solidified inside the bottle. Ah well.... back to scratch.
I started new.
This time, I used Gosling's dark rum, witch hazel, my favorite cologne, a few drops of EVOO and exactly TWO drops of rosemary essential oil, (the kind that people use for aroma therapy,). About a 1:1:1 ratio on the rum, witch hazel and cologne.
The result is an after shave that starts off smelling like rum and rosemary, which are great together, and then leaves my face soft and smelling like my favorite cologne. My GF loved it. My brothers liked the smell, too.
I think if I add some liquid styptic, it'll be all I want out of an AS.
Not too bad!

Places that sell scent products for do it yourselfers sell a specially formulated denatured alcohol made just for that purpose. usually contains about 40%denatured.

Thanked: 58I've just recently tried this concoction for a homemade bay rum aftershave. This might be the wrong thread to put this in, but I thought it was interesting. The only change I made was adding a couple of cloves and some pipe tobacco to the mix. http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthr...Rum-Aftershave

Thanked: 1I have read that the tobacco can be dangerous to add since very small amounts of nicotine can be quite toxic when absorbed by the skin. Seems like it would be a nice scent though.
I've got a batch which is stewing at the moment: potato vodka, rum, cardamom, cinnamon, allspice, lime peel and some bay essential oil. It's been about ten days and smells about how I do when making holiday cookies after a few drinks. I'll probably cut it with unscented witch hazel before usage. Adding the styptic is interesting. Not sure if I want that on every application, though, but I am curious how the final product comes out.

Aw hell... feel free to add any ideas to this thread. I was just trying to make a relatively simple concoction, and succeeded. It smells good, and leaves my face smooth.
I like to read about other people's concoctions!
