Default What AS to go with MdC?

    Hiya,

Just wanted to find out from fellow MDC users what AS they use with the soap. I'm not very good at describing scents but my 'OCD' compels me to try to pair various soap scents with corresponding AS scents. It's easy when I use products like DRH, Castle Forbes or AoS where I can just get both their soap and AS in the same scent.

It gets tricky for me when I'm using my MWF or MdC. I've found that for me, Floid blue works well with MWF to recreate the 'old school' barber shop experience but I'm still struggling to find an AS to pair up with the MdC, having tried my Floris Santal, Floid and DRH Arlington.

That made me wonder what other AS people use with MdC. Also, I'm more of a splash, alcohol person than a thick balm/cream user as I tend to have oily shiny skin that gets worse with heavy creams.

    Looking forward to your suggestions,

    Ash

I am a balm type of person (can't let alcohol touch my face), but the Roger & Gallet L'Homme balm that I pair mine with is very light and has a touch of menthol to help cool the face. Works a treat with MdC. I have also used L' Oreal's sensitive balm and that too has been fine with it. I certainly haven't got an 'itchy' feeling from either.

Really, as with any good soap no matter what the scent is once you rinse all the residue off your face the scent departs so you can use any AS you want.

I agree with my friend thebigspendur. Martin de Candre's distinct scent disappears after your final rinse. This is the case with most soaps and creams: the scent dissipates after the final cold water rinse and will not interfere with your aftershave's scent.

Hey guys, I understand what you're saying and do agree with you, maybe it's me not expressing myself clearly. It's just me and my weird ways. Let me put it this way, let say if I were using a lime body soap, I'll then use a lime shampoo or if I have Irish Stew, I'll have a Guiness with it.... I know, I know.....Weirdo!!

People say it's signs of crazy but I like to think of it as signs of genius, lol. The way I've paired MWF and floid in my mind is that they were the scents of an era and old barbershops.

I was just trying to find out an AS that marries with that of MdC (an exact same scent would be perfection but even with all my quirks, I know that's near to impossible), knowing all too well that once the AS is on, that's all I'll be smelling.

In that case I would buy the MDC fragrance. It should be the same for their AS as the soap.

With your oily skin, you could try something like the D.R. Harris Lavender water.

I'm reminded of an old barber's poem:

    The best AS for MdC,
Is lemon juice with a bit of pee.
Or orange peel and a drop of spittle,
Or some vomit mixed with peanut brittle.
But if you find these brews distasteful,
Or would go so far as to say disgraceful,
Remember they are not quite as absurd,
As shaving cream made from a fresh dog turd.

Those old barbers knew their stuff.
