Thanked: 0Post Shave Ritual
Curious as to what works for other folks. Not just products, but maybe how you incorporate different stuff into your ritual.
Here is what I do:
1 Cold Water Rinse/Towel I like to rinse with cold water, then use a towel run under cold water, that was rung out a little. I will hold that on my face for a minute or so and repeat. I like to feel like the towel take transferred some of the heat off of my face and cool my skin off. The towel will be the same towel I used before for the pre-shave prep.
2 Witch Hazel I usually splash my face with a Thayers witch hazel astringent. Usually just the unscented. They have some nice scented ones out there, but I like unscented products. I pat my face dry after a minute or two.
3 Aftershave Wax I got a tub of the Razo-Rock and I like it. I have the original scent, they have some others that sound nice but I have not tried them yet. You just need a little dab, and then massage that into your face. It seems like it cools your face and moisturizes just the right amount to not be greasy and not be dry, and I like the smell.
Once in a blue moon I will skip steps two and three and replace with an application of Dominica Bay-Rum Aftershave.
I found that by using this post shave process my face has virtually no irritation afterwards, and I get compliments that I smell good.Last edited by kona; 10-02-2012 at 07:15 PM. Reason: undesired word skim link

Post Shave Ritual
After my shave I always clean the brush, clean the blade, and clean the mug and bowl I use. After the equipment is taken care of, I splash some cool water on my face to remove any soap left over. I trace my fingers along the path I take my razor and make sure everything is satisfactory. Following the inspection I pat my face dry with a towel and apply witch hazel, but I put my thumb over the cap and dab it on very lightly. I use the same motion for the AS I use, turning the bottle over the thumb and applying it lightly. Some people complain over the smell of AS, but if they are close enough to smell my AS then I feel I should be able to be the one complaining.
It's just corn syrup... Warm, blood flavored, corn syrup ...

Splash of luke warm water, rub lather on face, run razo rock alum. over the lather, cold water rinse, pat dry, and AS or ASB of the day. Not fancy but it does me right everytime.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 0Thanks Jack,
I guess I forgot too mention taking care of the equipment. I usually do that more once I am all set. Two things not mentioned yet, sometimes I use a hair dryer on the cool setting to dry the brush, and I usually dunk the razor in Barbicide for ten minutes. Then I let it dry off on a towel, then I will dab a little camellia oil on the razor and put it away.

After the shave I wash my face with warm water. When it is clean I rinse my face with cold water.
If I catch razor burns I smear my skin with Eccelente Cosmetic Calm Moist Concentrate Mask and leave that stuff for about twenty minutes before removing it with warm water.
Then I use the Acca Kappa 1869 after shave. If no razor burns, I skip the use of Eccelente.

Thanked: 247I am still developing a ritual. My neck is giving me fits, and I cannot seem to shave close due to the grain and the (seeming?) impossibility of shaving WTG or ATG.
I have been trying a little too hard lately, so my ritual is evolving afterward to repair the damage I am inflicting.
Generally, I do the cold splash followed by witch hazel, followed by Nivea or some "aftershave balm" made by a cologne maker...I realize that this is probably just cheap lotion with cologne mixed in.
