Trumper face food

I purchased some Vito's shave soap from the Royal Shave and received a few face food samples. I was very excited as I have wanted to try it out. I finished my shave, rubbed alum all over my face, let it dry and applied the face food. After a little while, my face was tight and uncomfortable. I looked at the ingredients and there were several types of alcohol in it! What gives? This stuff costs and arm and a leg, but it is loaded with something that causes discomfort and dryness. Maybe I am missing something?

I have the lime and while it doesn't dry my face it also does not moisturize very well either. It is IMO another over-priced Trumper product. I am currently using a puck of their sandlewood soap as a bath soap to finish it up because it is useless for shaving. Their creams are OK but I will not be buying any more face food or GFT soaps.

I was wanting to try the skinfood. I have skin that is a pain and like some moisture after the alum or witch hazel. At £20 or so a bottle though I think I'll give it a miss. I like the limes cream and can't say I've tried the soap, for either shaving or bathing

Original poster, are you applying the skin food without washing off the alum? I wash the alum off with cold water before applying the skin food.

I use Trumper's Lime Skin food and like it very much. It is pricey, but my bottle has lasted me six months and u still have a good amount left in the bottle.

+1. Not the best, but I do like the smell and feel.

For the OP: are you referring to Trumper's Skin Food? If so it should not have a drop of alcohol in it, unless they've reformulated it. I've only tried the original, the Coral, and IIRC it was basically just rosewater and glycerin.

It was great stuff while it lasted. The only reason why I haven't bought it for a while is because I found it wasn't integral to a great shave. More of a luxury item

I went and checked as I thought I still had the bottle but I must have thrown it out

Anyway, I'm sure I remember at least the Coral being alcohol free, but I guess I can't be 100%....

Either way, I still enjoyed it while I had it.

I just started using the GFT Coral Skin Food for my aftershave routine while on travel (I'm finishing 2 weeks on the road this Friday). I may try the lime.
I'm not displeased with it, but I do miss the burn of my aftershave splashes when I'm on the road. They just don't travel well; leakage etc.
As to the dryness, I don't understand either. I find it to be a very adequate moisturizer.
As stated above, try washing off the alum before applying the Skin Food.
Every time I grab the alum block, I think of the Bugs Bunny cartoon where the head shrinks to a mere pimple.
Get that stuff off your face after it has served its purpose and then let the Skin Food serve its purpose.
Interested in thoughts of differing opinion.
I'm here to learn more than to teach.
This is all new to me.
I think instead of all the disclaimers it is appropriate to simply state, "YMMV"????

My bottle is alcohol, glycerol and some fragrance. Again, it's OK but to me not worth the cost when a much cheaper product like Nivea works better and a similar priced product like L'Occitane balm is far far better at protecting and moisturizing MY skin.
