    Default Razor Burn!!! Help!!!

I am new to saftey razor shaving. I had planned to start with a straight razor and decided to start with a saftey. I am using a Parker 91R with a Feather HI Stainless blade and Classic Brand shave cream. I have only shaved only twice with the razor. I have done a two pass shave and the first pass is great but when I perform the second I get the razor burn. Any kind of tips would be greatly appreciated. I am determined to continue using the saftey razor and I intend to get a straight if I can get rid of the razor burn.

Have you tried other blades? Different people tolerate different brands differently.
    Also how is your pressure?

Feathers are super sharp, but that doesn't mean smooth. I have found that you have to have a really light touch to shave comfortably with them. Focus on the pressure, less is best.

I haven't tried a different blade yet. I could be using to much pressure. Not totaly sure. I'm use to shaving with a disposible Mach 3. The razor burn is on my neck this is normally a sensitive spot for me any way. I am totally amazed that there is 0 pull when I shave with the safety razor. With any multy blade i have ever used they've always made me grit my teeth while shaving due to the pull and discomfort.

I will try the less pressure and see how that works. Any recommendations on using a pre shave oil or lotion?

If you're new to safety razor shaving, then I would recommend using a different blade than a Feather. As mentioned, Feathers are super sharp, but they do not offer the best shave for newbies. Try a more "regular" blade like Derby Extra, Astra, Crystal, etc. You can try others through variety packs.

Pre-shave oil is good if you want to lubricate the whiskers and face. Apply a small amount on the face, rub it on the face, then apply the shave cream over it. Most pre-shave oils have the directions on the bottle.

Do you use aftershave? To get razor burn relief, you may want to try splashing some witch hazel, or rubbing an alum bar, on the face after you're done shaving.

I have used almond oil, Astroglide, and two different hair conditioners as pre-shave "oils". They all work. As described previously, put a little on your face before you apply lather.

For the hair conditioners, pick one with "Silky" in its name or description. That usually means it has silicone oils, which are great for shaving.

In what directions are your passes? The first one should always be with the grain. Then I do across the grain. That usually is good enough for me.
