Default Lifetime Supply of Alum blocks -5$

The title can be somewhat misleading but I figured I'd link this as I recently spent 9$ on a 75g Osma alum block, and figured you could make quite a bit more for fraction the price by going for a little drive. In my case the Bulk Zone in my town had Alum powder for like 4$ a pound... might have been cheaper can't recall lol. But anyways I seen this link on youtube and after checking it out figured I should link it up here and save some of you DIY guys money :P.

How to Grow Large Alum Crystals by Crystallization - YouTube

Now their's a few more videos like this to check out if you wish to compare. Just type in "grow your own alum crystal".

I also had a cool idea of mixing essential oil with the alum block during the mixing for extra benefits like maybe a Witch hazel alum block :P best of both worlds haha. But I'm unsure if the crystal would still form with the added ingredients as I've never made one. But heres to those who do

    This I've GOT TO TRY!

I would imagine that once you got a large enough solid crystal it could then be sanded into a block and the dust that was left could be used to start another block!

Couldn't help but laugh though when I compared my 75g block for 9$ to an entire pound (454g) for less than 1/2 the price lol. THEM OSMA'S MAKIN IT RICH!!!

There are two types: potassium and ammonium (the ammonium stings more I hear).

Thanks for posting this. I don't know if I'll ever do this because alum blocks are so cheap and last so long, but watched the vid and it's cool.

Disposable Razors are cheap/inexpensive but just that/disposable!!! Alum Blocks wear and will need to be replaced!

Straight Razors with proper care can last for generations!! I know this for a fact as my son at the age of 17 was the first one to use his Great Great Grandfather’s W&B near wedge in close to 100 years!!

To be able to start with a simple purchase and then use that to continue to be able to make Alum Bars forever with just some time, patience, hot water, string etc is going to be very cost effective!

Plus, to be able to make a bar as a gift and for the receiver of the gift to know that it wasn’t purchased but made by the sender would be indeed priceless!!

I’ve got a few days off coming up; I’ll give this a go!! I think that it’s well worth the time and effort!!

Yea, there are two types and according to a pharmacist I asked the ammonium one will sting more.

Interesting vid but I am too lazy to do it. Wally world sells a 120 gram deodorant crystal in a convenient turn up container for about 6 bucks. It is the ammonium alum version and does double duty for shaving and the pits. It illuminates one item from the dopp bag when traveling as a bonus.

You can buy the blocks bulk from Talumba. I think I bought around 6 or 7 for maybe 10 bucks and that was over 5 years ago and I still have a bunch.

I was thinking of making a giant crystal skull like the one in the new indiana jones out of it lol. But I'll be sure not to stare into it's eyes for too long.

Also you could make decorations out of it. Like a giant set of boobs to rub on your face or something lol, vegas style ^_^
