    I consider Thayers to be a pre-aftershave

The rest makes sense...a balm to moisturize and a splash for scent.

This is a bottle I found on the bay from the '60s. It set me back about $30. Too much, I know, for a sub-par aftershave; but how can you not have this in your collection?

Costabo, I'm smiling just thinking about Hai Karate, Brut, Old Spice, and my "young and impressionable years". I'm with you, the pic alone is worth $30.00.

As most of my shaving years i never "got" aftershaves except for stinkiness, and therefore never used any; now I'm looking in to it. So funny seeing so many old classics. I'll get some Clubman next trip to the store.

I have been doing cold water, alum, rinse, witch hazel USP.

USP version is the "official" version with 14% alcohol, and i can hardly smell it.

    United States Pharmacopeia

    and mmmmmmmm Tanker Ray!

I thought the same too about the personal value of just having it on my shelf! I regularly us all the classics: Hai Karate, Brut, Old Spice, Skin Brace, Aqua Velva, Aqua Velva Musk. I just wish my wife liked them as much as I do.

    Big Greg's After Shave

Gin or vodka - 1/2 cup
    Witch Hazel - 1/2 cup
    Alcohol - 1/2 cup
    Veg Glycerin - 2 tablespoons
    Alum - 2 teaspoons
    oils
    lime - 10 drops
    sweet Birch - 10 drops

Heat the vodka or gin in the microwave 1-2 mins and put in 2 teaspoons of alum and stir until dissolved. Alum doesn't dissolve in cold water. Add all ingredients together and put in a dispenser of choice and you got after shave. You can choose what ever oils you like, Sweet Birch and Lime go well together.

    Thanks,

    Big Greg

Thayer's--the rose kind is all I use. I pour some in my hands and splash it on.
I saw some cheapo plain witch hazel at Bartell's Drug Store (Store chain in Washington). Might do the trick but I don't need any at the moment.
