I tried yesterday cold shaving. I spashed my face with cold water before shaving, used cold lather, did two passes WTG and ATG, then I washed my face with cold water. I felt that my stubble was more harsher by this method. I didn't get any skin irritation so it was no different to my hot shave. But I didn't get as close shave as hot water shaving. And I had cold shivers during shaving for using cold water so I'm going to stick with hot water shaving

I live in Queensland in Australia. Its pretty hot and humid here for a good part of the year.

I prefer to cold or luke warm water shower, depending on the the of year. For me its all about body temp and comfort. I wash my face well with soap in the shower then dry my face prior to shaving. I then when ready to shave cold water splash, face lather with soap and then shave. When I first started shaving (DE) I used "as hot as I could stand" water, and I hated the application of heat to my face, after all its hot enough here without adding heat. I was uncomfortable and my skin showed it, but I continued on as thats how I was taught, I believed cold water shaving was bad and not good for my skin.

I had read a few articles about cold water shaving, so hating the application of heat, I decided to give it a go. I have to say the shave is as close, I don't think closer, but my skin likes and shows it likes a cold water shave. I have less irritation and I enjoy my shave more and thats great as far as I can see.

If I lived in a colder climate (Im originally from the UK) would I shave with cold water on a cold morning? Probably not, but would I try and super heat my face instead, no I think not.

I think from my experience that a good face wash in comfortable temp. water followed by a shave with lather that feels pleasant on the skin is where its at. Too much heat = irritation, too cold and its a ordeal, so use what feels best to your skin and see how it reacts.

I really don't think shaving is rocket science, if it feels good and your skin likes it, it is good. If its minus 18 and the water is freezing I know I would be whinging, I don't need a shock to start the day except for Coffee that is…

Big yes to what Kevin said. Where he lives it was 41C yesterday - I'm glad that was my off day for shaving, 30 odd degrees C this morning was bad enough to have to stuff around with hot towels and all the usual palaver. Cold shaving really makes sense in this part of the world at this time of the year, i.e. 26 deg S and the middle of summer.

I have a couple of guys out my backyard right now with chain saws taking down all the trees knocked down in the ice storm, it' warmed up considerably, only -5 right now, after being down as far as -30.

While a hot shower is nice, it's always a cold shave to me....YMMV!

    Cheers!

I agree, shaving is not rocket science. You would be surprised though that there are a few people out there that use cold water in northern climates. We have been in a deep freeze, as has most of Canada and the northern US, for the past couple of weeks with temps running be tween -20C to -40C , that still do cold water shaves.
It was -28C this morning when I cold water shaved but not a problem inside the house at a balmy +21C. Still use Prorasso green in the winter too for that nice menthol kick. Yea, I know, we are a strange lot. I'm with phrank, still like my showers hot though.

I've tried the cold shave with mixed results, and abandoned it. The most I do now is a cold tap water rinse after the shave.
