    How many of you guys are actually shaving bears? For those of you that are, I have a couple of questions;

    1. How do you keep them still?

    2. Do you find they get pissed off after a while?

    Sorry, it's Saturday night and I'm in that kind of mood.

    If you want your hair to be really brittle rather than soft, shave dry.

    God, I love the Welsh, even those exiled to Wales. Must be something in the air or water but every Welshman I've been corresponding with has that slightly twisted spark in him (or her) that makes for good conversation.

    Cold shave....Nope. It actually hurts since the razor will pull.
    I stand by what I quoted...Written in 1905 during the height of straight razor shaving. You want your whiskers stiff and brittle not soft. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's wrong. Here is another great quote from 1905..."E=mc squared. "Sometimes the old ways are the best".

    Cousin Festus swears if you take some Goat Milk and warm it up and saturate some cheese cloth and apply it to your face and let it sit for five minutes it does the trick. However it has to be fresh Goat Milk not the stuff you buy in the stores.

    If you decide to do it just make sure the goat agrees to it first.

    It expect there is a correlation between guys actual beard whisker diameter & hardness and their replies to this thread. A thick beard is not the same as a thick individual whiskers. The hardness of whiskers is another variable as well - the grey whiskers on my chin are like shards of glass. I am happy to get 3 good shaves from a blade before re-touching and I use a Feather blade only once.

    Having tried everything described in this thread, I can only shave comfortably after a long hot shower, keeping my beard wet until I shave, adding as much water to the lather as possible, applying the lather to a wet face and using a very very sharp blade. I apply lather before I strop, rinse it and re-apply it before I shave.

    p.s. During the height of straight razor shaving, they believed disease was caused by bad air.

    I can see where you were trying to go with this but they really where not far off with that. They just didn't really know what was in the air so the blamed the entirety of the air.

    It's all a bit like fishing to me. Some reckon the high tide is best some the low.

    Fish how you want , high or low, shave how you want, hot or cold. You have to be the only person that is happy with the results.

    Seems like unnecessary fussing to me...I used to do more prep, oil and preshave cream, hot towel, tai chi....

    All I do is wet my face, make my lather, wet my face some more, and then apply my lather.

    Sometimes I use hot, sometimes I use cold, sometimes I use D.R. Harris, sometimes I use Truefitt and Hill....sometimes I use badger and sometimes I use boar....I think you get the picture.
