Woke up late? What's your solution?

Woke up super late and need to shave before work? What's your hurry up prep routine?

I ask this because I often sleep through my alarm and have to do a quick shave before I head in to work. I'm interested to see what everyone deems necessary, and what they deem convenience.

My daily routine consists of Van Der Hagen soap,bowl, and brush, along with two passes of my DE. On running late days I usually used the canned foam and a single pass with the DE. If it's an extremely late morning I'll grab the Norelco on my way out the door and use that in the car. :shrug:

Umm, not sure I should share this tidbit really, but you asked..
If I shave in the morning, which I sometimes do, I am in a hurry. I'll grab a shower, apply some soap to my whiskers while I finish my 3-minute shower, rinse off, grab a straight and whack it off. Yupp, no lather or anything. Takes me a minute or two only.
Very fast, but it certainly does not have the comfort of an ordinary shave. And for the record, I will not recommend this solution to anybody, even if it works for me.

My solution would be to turn up your alarm to a much louder setting, there is no need to rush a shave, either that or shave before you go to sleep.

I shave in the evening, but if I'm in a rush I use a DE. If I'm in a panic or traveling I use a....dare I say......multiblade.

Usually I'm pressed for time on Sunday before church and just enjoy my Merkur 137C with a feather blade.

I rarely sleep late. I began going to bed/sleep when the feeling came over me, rather than forcing myself to stay awake for another hour. Whatever I can do for that other hour tired, I can do better with the hour early in the morning when I am refreshed. :)

I rely sleep late, but love lounging in the morning and hate rushing a shave. I generally shave in the evening but if I do a morning shave it is lather and shave one with and one against, with a straight. I hate to admit it but the only time I used a DE was when I was 12 and cut myself. I didn't have anything to shave but the experience left me DE phobic.

Grab the Mach 3, shave soap and brush and take a shower then shave in the shower.

My current "pressed for time" solution is a Cobra Classic with the Feather Pro Blades.
Once pass is better than a 3X Mach 3, if you have time for a 2x (one N-S, one S-N) you are in BBS territory.
Not having much to do in the pre & post shave razor care helps cut a lot of the time.

Before that it was a DE, most often a Weber with Persona Labs.

I use a Mach 3 when I carry on for travel - and to remind me how much I like a Straight Razor...

I started shaving with a DE that I my Dad gave me (wish I still had it)
On one of those early shaves I forgot to tighten the TTO and took a nice chunk out of my face.
This fear (failing to get everything snugged up) is still with me to this day...
But it is worth dealing with to have this skill/tool in the shaving line up..

I tend to use the DE more than the straight. Lately I've been using Dollar Shave Club cartridges in the shower as I have a shoulder injury and will have surgery soon.
The interesting thing is that I don't feel cartridges save much time. They take just as many passes and till don't necessarily give a great BBS shave. The only advantage to me is that they're not aggressive and don't have to be as careful.

Cold splash,
Wet brush,
Lather C.O Bigelow on face,
2 pass scything no water touch up,
Cold splash rinse, pat with towel,
Splash witch hazel,
Brush teeth while it dries a bit,
Splash aftershave, (usually Aqua Velva Ice Blue)
Brush hair,
If it is winter or needed quick hit of Nivea Balm and go.
10 minutes tops
Leaves me BBS most places DFS the rest.

Shave the evening before. A good shave in the evening is better than a rush shave in the morning.

Most days my solution is preventive: shave at night after my daughter and wife are asleep. If for some reason I did not, it depends on HOW late. If I have 10-15 minutes - stick a brush in a bowl of hot water, brush my teeth, strop, use a shave stick (tabac or D.R Harris for example), face lather, 1 multi directional pass - basically wtg, with xtg or atg at patches I know need more. Cleanup, AS and away. I can pull a DFS this way. If I'm really late (say have 5-10 mins) it's the same but with a Maggard mr1 DE with personna blades. saves on the stropping and less detailed cleanup.


And if I'm really REALLY late I just skip it, i'm in s/w r&d and as long as I'm doing my tasks and there no bigwigs coming to waste our time (I'm sorry - get a progress report), nobody cares...

I Shave at night, or in the morn I use a canned lather and a DE.

I try to shave at night after the little one has gone to sleep. This gives me more time to work my my growning technique with the straight.

Set the alarm to wake you up earlier.
OR
If you don't need to shave that day, then skip it.
OR
Shave the evening before.

I'd love to have this problem. On workdays, or a day that I have a set hit-time for waking up, I'm usually opening my eyes about 2 hours prior to the alarm. This morning was a textbook example: Alarm set for 0630 (for a 0750 departure). I woke up at 0345. Have been up since. I keep bouncing around between shaving in the morning and evening and both work well (what with all the extra time I have). I tend to enjoy whiskey in the evenings, so for safety's sake, I should probably just stick with the morning routine...haha.

My advice, though, for what it's worth, is what everyone else has already said. Shave in the evenings before. IMO, a good straight shave is good for up to 18 hours. I'm a military officer and find that shaving the night before with patience and focus keeps me well within acceptable limits throughout the following duty day.

I agree, kind of. I work overnight. So my shave is in the morning after work. Nice hot shower, and steady shave. Shaved at 8AM yesterday, today my shadow is setting in. Its close to 4AM. Working 12 - 14 hour days gets you tons of wiggle room.

Get up earlier next time...

I don't really worry, but I do shave in the evenings, if I missed one I would :
1 not bother,
2 cartridge in the shower, but I shower at night so cartridge with no brush face lather using a blob of cream and my hands,
3 electric razor in the car,
4 take a razor of some sort to work and worry about it if I had the time.

Well, you're already late so just go back to bed and call in sick.

When I am in a rush, which is often, I immediately start the shower to draw the hot while I brush my teeth and load a blade in my Parker 98c. As soon as I am done, I fill my bowl and soak my brush. I jump in the shower and wash face, then hair, apply conditioner to hair and face, wash body then rinse hair and face. I dry hair but not face, apply oil, wash hands. Lather, shave and apply after shave cream. I can do 2 passes in 4 minutes counting from when the shower is turned off, utilizing the warm up time to do other things. From alarm to dressed and out the door can be executed in 12 minutes.

My answer is a DE shave with a splash of water and hand scooped smear of Nancy Boy or other brushless shave cream.

DE shave is about as simple as it gets.

If I have to shave fast I use a Schick Injector and face lather with Arko. I usually shave at night so it's not a problem

One pass and don't worry about BBS. Not any slower and I think faster than a DE. You have a wider blade!

I usually shave in the evening. But if I have a rushed morning shave, I use my Slant with Feather Nanika. Just splash of water, rub in the Nanika, good for two passes. And two passes with a Slant does the trick for me. DFS with no irritation. Splash on Proraso and out the door.

I also shave in the evening, so I do not run into that problem. I can't rush a shave since I've been using a straight and a de. It always ends up bloody.

A lot of people on here have recommended shaving in the evening. I second the suggestion. I commute by bicycle so a shower is most definitely needed at the end of my day, and no shave is better than one right after a hot shower. Plus, I find the relaxation and calm brought about by a leisurely shave improves the end of my day as well as the start of my next. Also, in the summer breaking a sweat on a windy bike ride after a morning shave is not the most comfortable, and likewise the blast of cold air in the winter soon after a morning shaving is equally disconcerting. An added bonus to shaving in the evening is my wife is not scared away by the day's stubble, which frequently results in a certain "perk" that improves both sleep and ones clarity of mind on the next day.

Option 1 - Shave at night before bedtime. (My significant other she likes that too!)

Option 2 - Running late in the AM cold water shave with Proraso, DE, and grit your teeth and I'm out the door. I will not try shaving in the shower, toooo risky especially if I am in a hurry!

As most have suggested, it is better to shave when you have time rather than try to squeeze it in when time is limited.
I flat out cannot rush a shave.
Tried it in the past and paid for it dearly.
To me this shaving ritual is about NOT RUSHING.
It's about slowing down and making the time to enjoy it.
For what it's worth,....we can miss a whole lot in life if we try to corral too much in at a time.

I would tell my boss that I had a skin condition and that it was inappropriate for him to ask about it.

when I am pressed for time, I do a quick warm towel soak, later up and a two pass shave with my Feather Shavette with Pro Guard blades. Fast, close and comfortable.

I normally shave at night but when I need to shave in a bigtime hurry I use a brushless cream (like Every Man Jack or The Real Shave Co.) and one pass with a Feather blade in my Merkur 37C Slant bar followed by a quick splash of bay rum. DFS in 5 minutes!

if I'm in a rush I use a brushless cream, (the 2 I have are "Creamo", and "Every Man Jack")
then do one wtg pass with a DE. only takes a couple min, and I look presentable. don't need to do this often and hate when I do cause I feel like I've messed out on another good experience. but it works in a jam

When I first posted to SRP I stated that I was hoping that using a straight razor was practical. It is, even for quick shaves. If I'm short on time I don't bother stropping. I just wet the brush, load it with a dab of cream from my fingertip, face lather and do a one-pass, "once-over" shave. Wipe the blade dry and put it away. Five minutes and done. ;)

I grab the R41, do two quick passes, and I'm out the door in no time.

Get a LOUDER alarm clock, being late to work repeatedly is a good way to get yourself fired.

I've been working on my routine, and if I am really rushed in the morning for whatever reason, then I'll usually soak my brush while I'm in the shower, and once done, I'll quickly face lather and use a multi in the shower for extreme circumstances. I only had my first DE shave today (bought one before I gave my groomsmen them as gifts), and it was quite nice as well. I will still continue on the straight razor path, but either a DE or multi for those times where you are running late.

My gf and I have our own bathrooms so mine is set up to a bamboo zen atmosphere. I much rather shave in the evening when I can light up the bamboo candles on my countertop and really let loose while shaving. Most relaxing thing I can do before bed.
