    Default In Hot Water

The hot water in my home is luke warm at best. We have small children in the house and don't want them to get burned. This has sent me on a search of ways to get significantly hot water to shave with, without too much effort. It finally hit me...we have a water cooler that dispenses HOT and cold water. The hot water dispenser has a safety on it so little tots cant dispense. To make a long story short, I put some of the hot water in a mug (I'm talking water hot enough to steep tea) and let my brush soak in it while I prepped my face.

It made some of the best lather and was so warm and comfy on my face. I had a great shave. I just might have to buy a scuttle and see how it works (Great, there goes another reason to get my AD going again.)

You'd be hard pressed to get me to give up my hot water shaves, ESPECIALLY during these cold Winter months. A nice hot shave will be great today in fact - trust me, it's bloody cold here today!

And yes, IMO scuttles bring it to a new level. I've used nothing else since I got my first one almost 5 months ago

Yes, it is weird the way your personal shaving evolves! I love a cold shave, but since Ryan82 gave me some advice on this old UK scuttle I had lying around taking up space, now quite frequently, I'll load the brush up and use the scuttle to make a real uber lather! The scuttle seems to really work well with the MWF...which is now have to stop myself from using every time!

Funny though, tried an old puck of Col Conk's amber, put some hot water on the top to soften it a bit, and it really exploded using the scuttle! Good old glycerin soap!

Yes as the night time lows here dropped below 60F, I had to wander out to the garage and turn the water heater thermostat up a notch! Cold mornings are tough without plenty of hot water.

If I had young ones, I would replace my faucets with the scald proof variety. They have a safety stop that limits the water to 100F unless you hit the over ride.

I think you're on the right track there. Ok, it may be not a big secret, but at least when it comes to soaking and softening your beard, a clean, wet towel out of the microwave is my weapon of choice. One minute or so on the face is just enough for me to soften those stubbles without making the epidermis too vulnerable for abrasions. Got to be careful though - comes out piping hot, but cools down to the right temperature in just a few seconds.

Our kids are all grown and gone so I turned our Hot water heater up a few notches. It makes all the difference in the world.

If you're looking at scuttles, which I recommend, take a look at the Dirty Bird scuttles...they are great! Handmade to your taste!
