+ 1 for the Tabac and Cella.
The other soap I've used during my military travels with very good consistant results is D.R. Harris.
I've been successful in raising a great lather with these three soaps with water that is marked "Non-Potable". We're talking water with all kinds of stuff in it, clean enough to bathe in but not allowed for drinking.
I realize that D.R. Harris represents a significant cost increase compared to VDH, so I would suggest the Tabac and/or Cella first.
Good luck and please let us know how things turn out.Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium

Thanked: 5Here in south Texas the water has one of the highest hard water ratings in the US. My water tester shows 280 ppm. I use Proraso, Bigalow and Arko. Someone recommended Arko as being the best for hard water on another thread. Proraso and Bigalow work great but Arko works best by far.

Thanked: 5Haven't tried the puck. It probably works just as well. Typically, I mash half a stick into a cup and lather it up from there. I have tried swiping the stick on wet face and lathering direct. This method works well also but not as good as whipping up in a bowl.
I forgot to mention that omega shave cream is without a doubt the king of lather in my bathroom. A half a dozen whips in a bowl and you'd swear you just shot lather from a can. I don't know if its the hard water or just typical for this product. Omega smells and performs like a mild Proraso eucalyptus.

Arko, Proraso and Occitante (this one is also one of best soap on market) don't fear hard water...but defeat!!!
For Cella...i don't think....so and so"Consider well the seed that gave your birth: you were not made to lives as brutes, but to following virtue and knoweledge"

I have hard water. Proraso soap worked great. So do srd glycerin soaps.
I mainly use cream because I can quickly get great lather from it. Most of the hard soaps ive tried don't work well here.

Thanked: 14I use mostly soaps and live in the Phoenix, Arizona area which has hard water. Tubac, Cella, Razorock, Proraso & TOBS are some that have lathered well here with hard warm tap water.
I tried MWF but had trouble getting a good lather with my hard water. Keep trying. Maybe get some bottled water and a small water pot to heat it up.
