Thanked: 3Was chatting with a friend the other day about how I was contemplating getting into straight razor shaving. He couldn't understand how I would find it enjoyable as he absolutely hates shaving. He has very dark, coarse hair and told me that he has been shaving since he was 13. Now he shaves with the cheap disposable razors for sale here in China, but he said that he does not use shaving cream, soap, not even WATER! He takes a cheap blade to his face and can finish up in less than 45 seconds. I really can't imagine this, but he swears by it

It can be done for sure with a good edge but I find it lacks slick and glide not to mention the cushion effect of lather. I personally do not like that stickiness of the edge on my face, I don't feel in control, especially against the grain.

Thanked: 3Sorry to quote myself, but just wanted to follow-up on this. The guy I mentioned above came and stayed with me and my family over this last weekend. He wasn't lying. He really took a disposable razor to his face without any prep and shaved in less than a minute with only 2 nicks resulting from it. Granted he only did a WTG pass and still had a slight shadow when he was done, but it was nuts.

I think that even if ones razor is the sharpest in the land, you are still doing it a favor by softening the beard and providing it with a nicely lathered surface. In addition to comfort, there is less strain on the cutting edge and your beard remains hydrated longer.

Thanked: 3215Next is the Rusty Razor test… comes on Ace… man up.
Seriously, I do a face lather, 3 pass 15 min shave start to finish. With a water cleanup.
I have never done the hot towel, BBS thing, shave… it’s just shaving.
You are right, water only, no crutch, does tell you a lot about your edge.
