Thanked: 7making my cheap soap smell nice...
Hello gentlemen!
I've been using Arco soap lately, and with its many advantages, it smells like, well, soap.
I was wondering if I can use fragrant oil to upgrade the smell...
I know people use it on bare skin for various reasons, as long as it's mixed with other natural oil.
Anyone tried or knows..?

Adding a tiny bit of fragrant or essential oil to the lather would work, yes. You could also make a superlather with a cream that has a nice scent. Arko is a very.. pungent soap, so it'll be harder than some others to mix in a new scent.

Thanked: 31Trying to change the scent of a soap/cream is not difficult but getting the particular scent/smell you desire might be difficult or impossible. Strange things can happen when you start mixing chemicals.
Let us know how it goes.

Thanked: 1184Nothing beats that lather. Wolfpack gave me a stick to try. It does have a powerful scent of old Ivory or Dove soap. If I was going to add a scent I would find out where soap makers get the essentials oils they use. Then grab a gallon per stick :<0) Wolfpack mixes his with something but I will let him chime in on how and what he uses if he happens along.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 22Yes, adding essential oils are great & fine, I have myself. Never used Arko but have read how some gents let it "breathe" for a month before adding oils.

well, I have tried lots of stuff: IF you use an oil try camellia oil with glycerin. You have to mix 3 parts gly. to 1 part camellia oil.camellia oil is also used on razors to keep them rust free.It comes from japan and china,it was used by samauri warriors on their swords.Asian women also use it on their faces for when retiring at night.
As for shaving creams there are a few that are still reasonables: CREMO is a nice cream that penetrates very nice and smells super. Another one is HEAD SLICK which is specially for shaving heads ,but its super on any kind of shaving and a very fine layer will do the trick. My favorite is "proraso" (made in Italy) they have a super preshave cream and two different kinds of shaving creams---the saddlewood is the best so far.Its a little more expensive but not that much-----there are some very, very, expensive stuff out there.IF you have the big bucks go for it ---life is short take it from an old timer

Thanked: 7Thanks everyone for the replies!
Here are my experiment finding:
It works! and works great!
It's actually pretty amazing.
I tried mint oil (because it's blazing hot in the desert). My first try burned a little, but not in a not pleasant way. I applied 1 drop of oil to my bowl, and I guess it was too much.
On my second try I simply ran the brush over the oil's pipette and bowl-lathered. Worked amazingly, extremely recommended!
I got the amazing lather of Arco with a nice mint smell, and freshness of mint on my face!

You could melt the soap Ina bowl in the microwave and add a few drops of your mint oil and stir it in before it dries.
