Default Pre-Shave Oil - Coconut Oil

    Well Ladies and Gents,

After several months of practice, just had the best shave of my life. I believe it mostly came down to the pre shave preparation. I did my normal routine of shower then putting hair conditioner on my stubble for several minutes and a rinse with water as hot as i can take it. Then I tried something new. I had read about preshave oil, and heard you could use kitchen oil as well. The wife keeps a large jar of coconut oil around the house. Since it has SO MANY different uses, and it fairly cheap ($5 for a 20oz jar). It is great for the skin, hair, cooking, sexy time, etc, etc.......It has a very slick, light, nice smell, and satin like feel to it. I put it on my face while I built my lather. VDH soap, badger brush, Dovo shavette. I normally get irritation if I go ATG with the shavette. Not this time. A full 3 pass shave, super comfortable and BBS. Even on my neck which I normally have problems with, super smooth and super comfortable. I do not have any other pre shave oils to compare to, but I now swear by this coconut oil. It made a world of difference for me.

Edit: You can pick up coconut oil from almost any grocery store. Also, I am stuck in a state of faceterbation.

Coconut oil is great for your skin before and after a shave. I have mixed it with emu oil for a very nice afteshave balm.

Another cheap (or inexpensive if the word cheap is not in your vocabulary) pre-shave is a little dab of Creamo or Kiss My Face rubbed in against the grain before you lather. And where do you get Emu oil?

If you are not fortunate enough to have an emu farmer next door you can get it at Amazon or many other online stores. Just make sure you are getting 100% oil and not some blend. About 3:1 coconut to emu is a good starting point, adjust as needed. I also add a couple of drops of tea tree oil as a disinfectant.

I tried the coconut oil last night and didn't notice any difference.
At my age, I'm not sure where to rub it for the "sexy time" thing. Maybe I won't notice any difference there either. LOL

Love coconut oil for many uses. I don't know what Sexy time is though. Been awhile.
I make a preshave oil with olive and coconut oil, plus a few others and essential oils.

I use a little Coconut oil in my pre-shave oil, but never slathered it on directly.

I'll try anything twice! ...just because!

I was using coconut oil for preshave about a year ago, shortly after starting to use a straight razor. I found that it left a residue and blocked my pores.

I couldn't use coconut oil without the odor causing me to flashback to visions of near naked female bodies cavorting on Waikiki Beach. Lack of concentration would cause me to need to contribute to the cut of the day thread.

Ditto on the Cremo. Inexpensive. Readily available.

Also, they're product testing some new stuff soon (I don't work for them, just appreciate the slickness of that stuff. I use it in an uberlather)

I like using Shave Secret as a pre-shave oil. Again, inexpensive and readily available in brick and mortar. It has cloves and eucalyptus(sp?) which has a really nice sensation as well.

Glad to hear of your success. I'm pretty sure my 5w-30 synthetic would be just fine as well. Bit more toxic, perhaps, as I like to enjoy the emulsion.... heh heh,,,
