Yum. Olive oil. Excellent for salads and cooking. Not bad for shining up a pipestem or briar, either.

As with all oils you rub on your face with your hands, preshave, you end up with oily hands proximate to a razor. I tried several preshave oils early on and decided it was more of a nuisance to get off my hands than it was a benefit to my shaving. I couldn't say olive oil worked better or worse than any other commercial oil prep. I settled on Proraso preshave menthol stuff and, later, Noxema cold cream; both rinse off in an instant with water.

I do use "Shave Secret" oil on occasion but lately I have been using a pure olive oil soap by "Kiss my Face" for my pre-shave. I was watching a shaving video by gssixgun and saw that he was doing that. Results are mixed so far but as I shower at night instead of mornings, this is what I do. No oily fingers for me. I need my nose and ears intact! LOL.

I have yet to find a pre-shave that out performs Noxzema. I have used various oils with less success and keep returning to the blue plastic container from my local drug store.

2 parts castor oil, and one part olive oil works for me. You can add a little essential oil like sandalwood oil or lavender for scent. It adds glide, moisturizes my face, and smells great. Some add glycerine and or coconut oil as mentioned above. I mean to try glycerine and coconut oil but haven't yet. I recommend buying a few oils and mixing and matching to see what works for you.

I agree, I have tried olive oil along with different mixes of oils and I always go back to Noxzema. How ever the two things I don't like about Noxzema is how cold t is and the residue it leaves in the sink trap so I use it sparingly and run hot water down the drain when cleaning up. If the weather is real cold on occasion I might use warmed up olive oil as a pre shave. But like you I prefer Noxzema.

Well, with everybody chiming in ere's my two cents. Have tried all the different approaches and had very mixed results. Finally stumbled on the following. Last thing in the shower rub a small dollop of hair conditioner on your beard, do not rinse off. When ready to lather splash face with choice of temperature tap water. Apply a small amount of Cremo or Kiss My Face shaving cream and rub well into beard. Lather over that and shave. A heck of a lot more cushion and easy clean up.

castor oil and olive oil and coconut oil are used ALL the time. I use the castor oil and coconut oil after almost every shave as a skin conditioner. Great. Hasn't failed me for YEARS.
