The Georgetown G20 is a little more, but boy are they worth it. There's a major difference between shaving with a little cheapy, metal bowl vs a nice, hot scuttle. I love having warm lather for additional passes.

G20 (20 oz water capacity) may be a bit big for most brushes.

Slightly smaller, the G12 (12 oz water capacity - you may have guessed it 😉 ) seems to work well with most brushes.

When I purchased a scuttle I bought a couple and a family member ended up with the one I did not keep. I chose the Dirty Bird and the reasons are listed in my post in http://straightrazorpalace.com/misce...ping-warm.html. I have not tried the "floating bowl" deal so I do not know what, if any, aggravation factor comes into play. That said ....... scuttles rock!

Another option is a cheap home made scuttle. Do a search and you will find many ideas. They keep your lather warm and won't break the bank.

There certainly is nothing wrong with being frugal, but if a scuttle "breaks the bank" you may want to take up a different hobby. Just sayin'

I have a really nice Dirty Bird scuttle, but switched to cold water shaving and face lathering, so it doesn't get much use. If you want to skip the scuttle idea altogether, search on cold water shaving and face lathering and try them out those techniques. I'm sure you already have cold water and a face

Do a Bing or Goggle search for Robert Becker: I own two of his scuttles a X-large and small. The best of both worlds. His prices are usually the best around.

I just visited Robert's website. He has serious health issues an is currently not producing scuttles.

A scuttle is one of those things you can jury rig something together and it gets the job done and you think, why would I ever need an actual scuttle. Then you acquire one and then you wonder how you ever managed without it.

I have used the VDH small bowl, picked up a shallow wider bowl and a plastic salsa dish. The bowl floating idea was to fill the bigger shallow bowl with steaming hot water and place the salsa dish in it to keep the lather warm for multiple passes. I've seen a few of the scuttles and like the idea of having it all in one. Its not that buying a scuttle will break the bank, but if I don't like it, I don't want to dump a lot of money into it. I have picked up a little brush soaker and a giant coffee mug today too. Pics to come.

I am with Beluga. The Georgetown Pottery G12 is the way to go, and if saving a little is also on the menu... a G12 "Second".

I love mine (though its not a second)... use it for every shave!
