Thread: Noxema

Does anyone wash thier face with noxema? If so, have you found any benefits with regard to strraight shaving? I used to scrub my face with it every day. Thinking about going back to it.

Noxema is what I always use before shaving. It doesn't dry the skin, and it cleans wonderfully.

Since my skin tends dry, I follow up with Neutragena body oil, rubbing it into my facial-hair area then patting dry…makes sure my skin is ready to bend rather than break!

Noxema was developed for treating eczema (hence the name) but has been found to have many other uses such as makeup removal and a good face cleanser. They make shaving cream. You may want to try both.

I have not heard much about the shaving cream but IIRC it is fairly cheap.

It is great to use as pre or post shave , I,m not wild about the smell but it's not terrible ,, I have used the Proraso pr/post and it's the same thing , Noxema just a lot cheaper ,,although when I use a really good hydrating soap such as Martin de Candre I really haven't needed it But it is a good tool. I liked Noxzema shave cream in the tube but have not been able to find it for many years so I think it is discontinued. Nothing on the Noxzema website either. It's too bad really.

I use Ponds Cold Cream that I add Vitamin E oil to as a pretty ave or sometimes after shaving. It moisturizes and soothe. The Vitamin E oil is great for the skin.

Yes the Noxema works very very well as a pre-shave really softens the beard..

Use it also. I put it on after the shower and leave it on while stropping and making my lather .

I don't use noxema per say but I do using another facial cleanser as a pre shave. Probably the best thing I have discovered that has improved my shaves. I have a theory that facial cleansers like noxema and other facial cleansers with salicylic acid strip all the oil in the hairs and follicles and of course dirt and grime as well and thus allow more water to be absorbed by the follicles. Just a theory of course but it makes sense in my head.

Noxzema works great, as has been said brands like Prep, Proraso pre/post shave seem to be similar but Noxzema is cheaper. I've also used Thayers with Aloe as a pre/post no alcohol version and have noticed an improvement to my shaves. The only reason I tried this is because I had tried just Aloe as a pre/post and liked it. I figured WH and Aloe would kill two birds with one stone.
