Thread: Dual& triple purpose products that last ages and save money

I tend to find that people who enjoy the process of using SRs are also people who enjoy other finer things in one's life of shaving such as pre-shave oils with herbal extracts, artisan shaving creams and post shave creams, lotions, aftershaves and posh colognes etc. After all, if you're going to shave properly..... Then you're going to shave properly.

Ironically however, the act of saving money in the long term from the idea of not relying on disposable shaving cartridges could arguably end up getting negated by how much more one might spend on such shaving supplements that tend to be pricier. I've also found that people who are disciplined enough to maintain a SR are also the ones who are more likely to dedicate time to find the perfect pre and post shave supplies to try and help achieve a BBS shave consistently.

In contrast, most people I know who do not bother with SRs also tend to just use a basic bar or liquid soap to lather up a foam and that's it.

It's therefore helpful when we (SR disciples) come across products that help us somewhat 'hack' the system with products that can serve a dual or even triple purpose to help in both pre, post and during shaving with just the one product, even though the product may not be intentionally advertised or aimed at this purpose.

The reason why I have taken the time to do a thread to talk about these shave oils is because of how versatile I find them.

I personally use the original shave oil simply because i prefer the smell of it, although I have tried them all and are all equally good.

Although they are marketed as pre shave and during shave oils, I find that they are also the best post shave moisturiser I have used and I have tried an insane amount of products over the years. Nothing has beaten somersets oils for me though, both as a lather/shave cream replacement but also as a moisturiser straight after the shave.

Why do I love it? Apart from how good the product is, it is relatively inexpensive as you only need a few drops at a time that you can spread over your skin with damp hands. But also, you only need the one product to do everything you need! Now if that's not value for money then I don't know what is. It smells amazing, uses natural ingredients, and actually works in every aspect you need at every stage of the shave.

I'm sure there are many other similar products out there that are on part that other SRP members might have come across that serve dual or even triple purposes that I'd be interested to try out..... After all, there's only so many products one man can test out in his lifetime without the help of comrades.

I'll be interested to hear if you have also tried somersets or if there are any other products you recommend?

P.S. I have also used somersets shaving gel and although a decent product also, it's not the best shave gel I've tried and also doesn't have a dual purpose potential as the oils do.... Just to alleviate doubts that I might be a somersets secret agent lol.

Interesting. Not having ever tried a pre-shave oil, I may have to look in to this.
