    Default Shave Secret oil

Hey all, I've heard from several folks about Shave Secret. They all seem to think that it is fantastic because it reduces irritation and probability of nicks/cuts but is not thick like AOS pre-shave oil.

Does anyone have experience and care to comment? Thanks!

I like it. Its marketed as a replacement for shaving soap. I don't use it like that, instead as a pre-shave oil and even after shave skin conditioner. Mi esposa likes the smell.

I don't always have time for pre shave, but if I do I have always used Ponds Cold Cream that I add vitamin E oil to. I am 67 and remember my father always used Ponds Cold Cream before and after his shave. I took it upon myself to add the oil.

I guess the Ponds is commonly available- maybe in the ladies makeup area? for the vit E do you just break a gel vitamin or is that available in a jug?

CVS or Walgreen's carries it. Most drug stores have it. Usually 2-4 ounce bottle.

I used to use it and it was ok. The bad part was that it was just an extra step with questionable results. The bad part was that after applying it I had to wash my hands real well so the straight razor would not slip from my fingers due to the slippery oil. Needless to say, I don't use it any more.

I like your process re: pre-shave prep. I actually started to use Edwin Jagger Shave Cream as a pre-shave application. I apply a very small amount to my moistened face, spread it around a bit with my fingers then brush Proraso Sensitive (the white canister) cream over that. Despite the extra step of making sure my hands are free of the EJ before picking up the SR, I like the results. I may try the Ponds Cold Cream (if I can find it). I remember my Mother always had a jar on her dressing table back in the day. Thanks bouschie

I don't like it because it is kind of sticky. I want something to allow the razor to glide across my face.

Do you have a different (less sticky) pre-shave to recommend? I definitely need something that will allow the razor to not get stuck...

A good shave soap or cream should really be all that you need. It should give you a lather that will give you the slickeryness, (is that a word), that you are looking for.
