Thanked: 174I tried to use a pre-shave oil, but didn't like the "oily" part :-) Now I'm using Geo. F. Trumper Sandalwood Skin Food as a pre-shave solution and very happy with it: it's glycerine based, easily absorbed, and doesn't leave that oily feeling. Sure, it's more expensive, but one only need a tiny amount each time, so the 100ml bottle should last for at least half a year.

Thanked: 0I have just started using cold pressed coconut oil from Trader Joe's for a few things recently, including shaving. I rub a little on my face before stropping, then lather as usual. I have very sensitive skin and it works rather well, and put a dab on after to keep my face from getting dry. I haven't tried anything else for shave oil so I have no comparison, but I thought I'd throw that out there anyway.

I went for a massage the other week and they offered aromatherapy massage oil. I chose eucalyptus. They gave me the rest of the small bottle after the massage and I brought it home. I believe it may be some type of tree nut oil, maybe almond oil??
Anyhow, I have now used it for several SR shaves and it works great!

Thanked: 4My skin is dry and flaky, especially in the winter. I tried using a. But of tea tree oil, but it did seem to break down the lather for me. Now I generally use a bit of coconut oil and rub it in with good effect. It absorbs well for me, still allows Fine lather and my skin is in better shape since moving to wet shaving.

Thanked: 4As a beginner with sensitive skin, I have found that using a little bit of oil under the lather (I use the Art of Shaving brand, which is really thick, so I just use a dab) significantly reduces irritation and redness afterwards, and makes the razor less pully. I suspect, though, that as my stropping and shaving technique improves, thought, I will find it less necessary.
