Default In praise of Slick Water

John Allen's Slick Water is a premium preshave gel/oil. It is very...slick. It also goes on and comes off very easily.

It works so well that I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned here before. If you are looking for more smoothness and less drag, it may be worth a try.

I'm just a user, no affiliation of any kind.

Ya not much pre shave oil users after they have been doing this for a while. But if it works and gets you to getting good shaves, I say go for it. Most of the time as we get better with our technique and choice of soaps and lather making, it falls by the wayside. What soaps are you using? Tc

I've always been of a mind that the less gunk you put on your face the better. I prefer a clean face for shaving and a quality soap will give you all the lube you need.

I did try some preshave products when I started but never became a fan of any of them.

The same situation for me also. WRT lathers I have found that having enough water in the lather really helps in the slickness department. Most all shave soaps/creams I have tried are slick enough if you gat the water ratio right.

I used Noxzema early on but then stopped soon after as I figured out what works for me but nothing with preshave products as lots of guys use them, so I say use what works for you.

$31 for 2 fl. oz. is not for me. But I do like to add a little bit of menthol pre-shave cream or apricot kernel oil to my face at the start. Gives me something to futz around with while the brush is soaking.
