Thanked: 155Like many, I generally shave after a morning shower. On weekends, however, I usually go in for a hot (actually very hot-a taste I developed in Japan) bath in the afternoon and a shave in the evening. On these occasions, I use the following prep:
Hot towel - I heat the towel in the traditional way, using hot water from the tap (I do have the water heater set as high as it will go).
Lather - I build the lather in a mug, but this is just my way, face lather or scuttle will work as well. I leave the lather on while I strop the razor.
Hot towel - this actually removes most of the lather so.
Relather
Shave.
The hot towel, lather, hot towel sequence effectevely washes and hydrates the hair.

I always take a hot shower as one of my many pre-shave preps. If I were to attemp shaving by skipping the shower, I would do this; 1. Wash my face with hot water and a good soap, or face wash for men, like Nivea, or Neutrogena. 2. Rise with hot water. 3. Hot towel would be a must. 4. Put shampoo or hair conditioner on my face. 5. Hot towel over the shampoo/conditioner. 6. Lather. 7. Hot towel right over lather. 8. Re-lather. 9. Shave. I think these steps should help compensate for the lak of, the oh so important hot shower.

Thanked: 6I have not but it looks interesting, though probably too expensive.
I got sold on this stuff called Blade Runner at origins in a Dillards store. Complete and utter garbarge. The stuff will not lather, is oily and makes your fingers slippery when you hold your razor. If you switch to the good old gillete sensor or fusion, it clogs the razor. Avoid Blade Runner at all costs.
Let us know if you try the Billy Jealousy and if it works.

Shower substitute?
What will they come up with next?
A multy-blade plastic doohickey to replace the straight razor?

Thanked: 0i shower at night as well but shave at night too im not sure if your beard grows fast like mine but what i do in the morning, before i started shaving with a real razor, was just get up and do a few quick passes before i go out with a safty razor. im going to do the same with the straight razor at night and if i have a date or work just pass a few time with a cheep razor they.
if that is not your style then a warm towl worked ok for my first shave but would have been better if i showered first im sure.

Thanked: 1Didnt use a hot towel this morning, but used a new method to me which worked well on the 1st try. Face/neck steaming.
1) I boiled the kettle, put the plug in the sink and poured the boiling water into it.
2) I lathered up some La Toja shaving cream on my face & neck and then put a large bath towel over my head and I leant over the hot water in the sink.
3) The towel acted as an enclosure for the steam and after a couple of minutes I could really feel my skin sweating.
4) I then removed the towel and began to shave.
I repeated all the steps above for the second pass, then applied aftershave balm.
It worked out really well, no irritation/razor burn to report.
I would urge you to take the time out to try this method and let us all know how you got on.
