So I ended up trimming it down with the clippers. My first shave wasn't that bad. Three passes; WTG, XTG, ATG. Here was my setup:
Pre-Shave Prep: hot shower with American Crew Citrus Mint shampoo followed by Nivea Deep Cleaning Face wash. Followed by a hot towel.
Razor: Unknown 7/8 Full Hollow Solingen blade
Brush: Dovo Silvertip, black micarta
Lather: Uberlather; Col Conks amber glycerin soap, 5 drops glycerine, C.O. Bigelow shave cream. Redneck Scuttle
After shave: Cold water & Taylor of Old Bond Street sandlewood gel

Three passes was maybe a bit much, at least until I get good. Probably will stick with WTG and XTG for awhile.
