    Question

'Tis a fine looking beard, lad. Do you really want to do away with it?

Just use a scissor or clipper to reduce it and then just the normal preparation for a straight shave and you should be OK.

    Remove the hat before shaving.

Seriously, just a trim and have at it.

IMO, no trim is necessary if shaving with a straight.

A trim and a good to go shave with a good lather.

A BBS attempt on day one will give ya a rash (did me)
    on the second day's shave.

i actually do better if i let it grow for a week than shave atleast with the fusion i was using, this is my first go at old school shaving, but i would take the trimmer to it, shower, soap, wipe dry apply the gillette gel crap and go at it and be fine.

and yeah i couldnt imagin lathering up as is and going at it now its hard enough to get a good lather with shampoo on it.
