Thanked: 30Shave Oil
I use a brand of pre-shave oil that is called shave secret. I pick it up at Walmart for less than $2.00 for a 18.75 ml bottle. I only use 3 drops so it lasts about a month. I smells good and really works. It has all natural oils and has menthol and cloves in it. If you don't have a Walmart near you you can get it on line at Shave Secret shaving oil provides the most comfortable, smooth shave ever! but it costs more than Walmart.

Thanked: 190I used it and it was OK. I thought the better buy was Castile Soap, which has many essential oils in it as well. The Castile soap can also be used for many other wash applications.
I used it as a preshave oil with my Col. Conk soap and it did a great job of thickening the Col. Conk Soap to actually measuring up to the premium shaving soaps on the market in terms of performance.

Pre-shave preparation shave oil
Hello, Mark:
I use John Allan's Slick Water, a pre-shave product I found recently. It works quite well for me. Nothing greasy here, and that added cushion and glide are worth it.

Thanked: 23I used Shave Secret at one time, and I agree it works as well as the more expensive oils you can find. I didn't really care for the smell, however. I currently make my own, which is even less expensive.

There are a number of pre-shave oils out there that I used at one time or another, but I stopped doing so. They clogged the pores of my face, which tends to be oily anyway.
These days I lather my face--aftera hot shower. Then massage the lather into my beard with my fingertips, followed by a rinse and the application of some bay rum to my face. Then I relather and shave.
The above described method may not work for everybody, but it works for me."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain
