I'm liking a cream, true you waste money as it contains water but I seem to be better making lather from a cream

I use both. I am of the opinion that if you are only using one, you are missing some really good products out there. I like how tallow soaps last and I like how creams can be made to smell stronger.

I like soaps - especially tallow soaps. If your a frequent traveler, like me, then soaps are the way to go, not being subject to ridiculous carry-on restrictions like creams. Other than that, you're sure to find much to love and hate on both sides of the debate. If the OP is trying to come to some meaningful conclusion it might be to read the reviews here and pick one of each to start.

As far as the soap goes, I prefer tallow because it's simple - I leave my puck in the mug and fill with hot water and soak my brush in it. Then shower/wash face. When I'm ready, I dump the water and make lather in my mug. The heat is absorbed my the mug and the soap, so my lather is warm for all my passes.

i use a stone scuttle for creams and making lather from glycerin soaps because they would dissolve if drowned in hot water. In terms of investment, be sure to get a scuttle big enough to hold a puck of soap and lather - that way your scuttle will always serve you well no matter where your lather comes from.

    Cheers!

I started with soap and liked the results that I got from it. It was a cheaper soap and I did not know any better at the time. I then switched to a cream, just for kicks. I've been using creams since. For me, I feel my shave has a little more cushion with the cream. It should be noted, that I also use a pre-shave oil and a balm when I am finished. I think I just like putting stuff on my face. I think I will invest in a good quality soap and try that for a while after my cream is gone. Give it a go.

Generally speaking, soap is easier for me to use because it's thinner but I do use cream on occasion.

One thing I'm finding out is that as I gain experience it doesn't make as much difference as it used to.
