Thanked: 20How is your lather?
Someone once said how thin, wet lather worked best for straights. Today I tried out some wet lather and the shave was amazing! I applied a thick layer of lather, but it was more foamy and moist than what most would consider ideal.
So I'm wondering, do you all prefer your lather on the wet side, or do you keep it in the same consistency as what you would use with a DE? What indicators do you use to tell if your lather is where you want it to be?

Thanked: 398Personally I would have to say that slicknest trumps everything else. I usually like my lather to be fairly thick but wet. I also find that a thick lather works well for a first pass, but that subsequent passes work best with fairly runny lather.

I like mine just right. For me that means thick but moist and not at all runny. I don't like lather dripping off of my chin while I'm shaving. I find it distracting. I've only recently started soaking my brush for a few minutes in my shaving bowl. I throw some water on top of the puck as well and go tend to other things for five minutes or so. I also like to mix some cream and soap sometimes. Carrie's Lavender and MWF is a great combination.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

As long as it's a quality lather product I find when it's just right it's the same Constancy and thickness no matter the brand. It's usually with the lesser products you have issues with thin lather and poor lube and runny lather.
I don't change things for a DE shave. Good lather is good lather. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

At the table in the kitchen, there were three bowls of porridge. Goldilocks was hungry. She tasted the porridge from the first bowl.
"This porridge is too hot!" she exclaimed.
So, she tasted the porridge from the second bowl.
"This porridge is too cold," she said
So, she tasted the last bowl of porridge.
"Ahhh, this porridge is just right," she said happily and she ate it all up.'Living the dream, one nightmare at a time'

Thanked: 1371I don't care what my lather looks like, it's the performance I'm interested in. For most all of the soaps and creams I've used, I prefer to have a little bit more water than what would create the nice looking whipped cream type lather.
I don't like it to be runny either, there is a definite balance point there.
