Marble does seem to hold heat longer than regular porcelain. Have you tried a scuttle? That is probably what you are looking for.
Yes indeed. Scuttles are the way to go. Check our review section here:

What exactly is a "Hot Bowl" Do you heat it in the microwave...?
For lack of better terminology, I used the "hot bowl" title for this application based on a you tube video I watched.
What I find works well is to submerge it into a sink of hot water then shower. Once out of the shower she's ready to go. I've tried filling it with boiling water from the stove but that's far too hot, the lather dries out and gets cooked.
I was thinking of trying one of those candle things my wifes uses to do the pot pouri stuff. Put my soap dish in the holder over the candle. Has anyone tried this?
Yes, I use this method exclusively. I plug in the warmer to pre-heat (If you do not have a GFCI plug, DO NOT DO THIS!!) and run a sink bowl full of hot water and let my lather bowl soak. Shower, then take the bowl from the sink bowl full of water and put on the candle warmer. Then I whip up a nice bowl of lather. Strop the razor I am to use, re-whip the lather & then lather up...followed by yet another wonderful shave. Life is good!
At one time, I used an electric Pot Pourri pot, which looks like a small crock pot. I had another vessell, a small flower pot looking thing, together it was like a double boiler.
Worked great. If you ever find one of those small crock pots, and want to use it, Julie at Dirty Bird pottery will make you an insert to build later in....
Here's a small one from Target Aroma Electric Solid-Color Potpourri Pot : Target
Looks to be just about the right size too.
I had not thought about my mug helping hold the heat. I use a metal camping mug, not good for heat. I had been thinking of using a candle warmer and found out that we have one that was almost thrown away today. I can't wait to try it tomorrow. If that does not work I will have to get a better mug.
you'll have to add more water to make the right consistency lather if it's hot
: Wow! That piece looks like a flower pot on top of a headstone! Impressive! How much does it weigh? I would bet it sits right still as you whip up some lather! That "brush" is interesting as well! Very cool. I have been heating my mug for years by running the hot water, while rising the sink, plugging the drain and filling the sink while running the water over and in and out of my mug with the puck in it. I then dump my towel in as well as the mug. The towell is hot and the mug stays warm and I can dip the brush in when the lather dries too much. Sometimes I must fill and drain the sink twice to warm IT up when it's cold!
On this note, did you read the thread on cold water shaves? I don't know. I will wait for summer to try that!;)
Incidentally, I think it wise to be sure marble is good for the microwave before anyone does that!:D
Good thread all. I started using my dog's water bowl! It is a large and heavy ceramic round bowl. I fill it with hot water and then place my lather bowl inside it. Just need a bigger sink for it but it's about the size of a large scuttle. Poor Fido will have to use a cereal bowl till I get a scuttle!
Personally, I use a large-ish ceramic "java mug" that I've had for years. When I get in the shower, I drop it in the sink, put my brush in the bowl, throw the bottle of baby oil and my hot rag in there, then flood the whole thing with the hottest tap water I can get out of the spigot. Then I shower and let the heat soak into the oil, rag, bowl and brush. It makes a nice, full, warm lather, and lots of it. Not to mention the lather stays wetter longer...
