Thanked: 9Sometimes you have to be resourceful
Alright, when it comes to pre and post shave I'm a barbarian, I'm not into fancy soaps and lotions and such. I've been using the cheap shave soap from walgreens, but it doesn't really lather very well..... So these past few days I've been adding a very small amount of Gillette 'fusion hydro-gel' on top of the soap before loading my brush... and d*** if it doesn't make it lather better! I'd guess this is basically the same as adding glycerin to less expensive shave soaps?

As long as you're trying to find a way to make it work you're on the right path.

Thanked: 3795Another great option is Kiss My Face Fragrance Free Moisture Shave. It's about $5 and a pump bottle of it will last you for years for use the way you are describing.

You know, you don't need a fancy soap. There are some really great soaps out there for around ten bucks a puck which would last you 6 months or more and you might be really surprised at the difference.

Hello, cevulirn:
I quite agree with my friend thebigspendur: you can get a good soap for around $10. And, yes, you can tell the difference.
Provence Sante Verlaine, a fabulous soap, is $10 a puck and will last you several months. L'Occitane is also around $10 a puck, and it's a great soap. Under $10 you'll also find good soaps such as Omega, Erasmic and Cyril Salter. Also some Mama Bear soaps. The few extra dollars are worth the pleasure you get out of these quality soaps.

Thanked: 9Where might I find such soaps? I find myself sensitive to smells, so I prefer fragrence to be... absent as much as possible. Are there any stores that I can look to find localy that would have more then the cheap stuff in stock?

Cevulirn:
Many of the quality soaps are available online from the vendors listed here at SRP.

What works, works. Some of the 'common' products work well and some work
even better when mixed as you have discovered. You are not alone as the uberlather lovers
have found.
I confess that Williams with a pea size drop of Proraso is a very enjoyable
combination when lathered in a big coffee cup where I keep my Williams. Now I have
three or four other favorites. I tend to add a puck of this or a tube of that
anytime I order a brush, razor or what ever and now have a collection that
gives me a well rounded rotation. Life is good....
