Thanked: 7Mitchell's Wool Fat shaving soap
I recently got a small chunk (about 20 grams) of Mitchell's Wool Fat shaving soap from Larry at whippeddog.com. Gotta tell ya, it's great! Apparently wool fat is another way of spelling lanolin and it is thick, smooth and long lasting. If you haven't already, give it a try. Smells nice, too!

Gentlemen:
Yes, indeed, Mitchell's Wool Fat shaving soap is top-of-the-line and has a big following here. What's more, a puck will probably last you into the next century. Make sure you use a relatively coarse brush with it and plenty of water. Mantics59 has an excellent video on lathering with Mitchell's Wool Fat. If you can watch it on You Tube, you'll learn some of the soap's requirements for proper lathering.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 1185I used to think the same thing about MWF (too expensive). Then after hearing years worth of hype, I decided to spring for a refill
($12) from Phil at Bullgoose. I grated and pressed it into a recycled TSD soap jar and presto! While it is a bit spendier than my normal fair, I will say two things in it's favor: 1. The four and a half ounce puck seems to last longer than any similar quantity of soap I've ever encountered (and I shave with it alot.) and 2. This stuff is off the chain performance wise and worth every penny. I'm with Bruce, do yourself a favor, Brother and get ya some. The older I get, the better I was

+1, it's good stuff!
Further to Obies great advice about lot of water (definately true!), try leaving a teaspoons worth of hot water on top of the puck for a minute or two. Softens it right up!
Grating it apparently works too, but I've not tried that yet.

Thanked: 3795I think MWF is a fantastic soap, but many here have complained that it does not lather well for them.

Thanked: 7hcintineo, I should have mentioned that for a mere $4, you too can get a 20 gram chunk from Larry Anrdo at whippeddog.com! Yes, it's kinda expensive but more and more, I'm agreeing with the old adage that you get what you pay for. I still have three pucks of Williams so not sure what the future holds for them.

Mitchell's Wool Fat is not necessarily an expensive soap. The Ceramic Dish is expensive. If you can live without it, a full puck of MWF goes for around $13.00 and can be found cheaper. It is actually a bargain!
