Yes, like most others have said, the Fat is a true performer.
It gives great cushion and glide, will last half a lifetime, and has a very clean smell to it.
As to price, I'd say it is a true bargain, it lasts for years. Literally, years
I use two band badger brushes on it mostly, and have no issues lathering it up.
Like Stubear I add a wee drop of hot water on it, and that softens it right up.
The only thing that will kill the lather quickly is too little or too hot water.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 33I've been using the wool fat for 2-3 weeks now. Before I tried it I thought it was most probably over rated. I had very low expectations for it. Wow , was I ever wrong. It's really a nice soap. It's the best soap I've used so far. It's definitely worth 13 dollars per puck.

I agree...MWF is my go-to shaving soap. It lasts a long, long time.
And contrary to popular belief, I found that it lathers quite well in hard water areas."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Thanked: 1185I used to think the same thing about MWF (too expensive). Then after hearing years worth of hype, I decided to spring for a refill
($12) from Phil at Bullgoose. I grated and pressed it into a recycled TSD soap jar and presto! While it is a bit spendier than my normal fair, I will say two things in it's favor: 1. The four and a half ounce puck seems to last longer than any similar quantity of soap I've ever encountered (and I shave with it alot.) and 2. This stuff is off the chain performance wise and worth every penny. I'm with Bruce, do yourself a favor, Brother and get ya some. The older I get, the better I was

Thanked: 1195+1 on both accounts. For best results follow Stu's advice, but instead of dumping it use that soapy water to build your lather. That trick works with any soap, and greatly improved the performance of MWF for me. It also dispells the old wives tale that MWF only works with face lathering. Try it and see for yourself....

skyguy,
A lot of the problem with lathering MWF seems to stem from not loading the brush with enough soap. The MWF puck is very hard, and +1 to the advice of grating it.
If you have a soft brush, with little back-bone, try using the side of the puck on your face like a shave stick.
This works extremely well for me and has the benefit that you can use any brush, soft, hard or whatever
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
