    Here is how I look at it. Oil is the last thing you need on your face to get a good close shave. I was taught to wash my face well with soap to remove all oil so that the hair will stand up better from your skin. Then you lather up and shave.


    Soap cuts oil. Our shaving soaps are........Soap. If you gunk things up with oil the soap has a harder time softening your beard. Now oil might make the glide better, but the hair won't be hydrated as well and it might not stand away from your skin to get shaved away.

    That is just my opinion, but it has worked for me for many years.

    I think WillN makes a good point, especialy after reading the cold water shave thread. It specificaly talked about the importance of the soap interaction with the wiskers.
    I learn more and more each day on this forum, thanks guys!
