Default worst shave ever thanks to the wrong pre shave

well today, i was giving a bottle of pre shave, that said would stiffen my whiskers and give me a closer shave, so i took a shower, scrubbed my face, used a little mineral oil(me regular routine) and then i applied the lotion and waited the asked 15 seconds, i lathered and shaved. But during the shave i felt huge irritation, but i just assumed that it was a dull razor, so i subbed in my Dovo(i just honed it yesterday) but still there was a lot of pain. After i was done i did get a close shave, i put on my post shave lotion, and a little after shave. A few hours later my face was red and hurt when i touched it or mad a smile. I tried remember if my angel of shave was correct, and looked at the bottle of pre shave turns out it was made only for ELECTRIC RAZORS, and being an electric razor pre shave there was an enormous of alcohol in it. So i felt really dumb, and i hope this rash goes away by the morning.

What did we learn today class?
read the label of ever product you get, especially if your face is on the line hahaha

I don't know what works for other people, but I don't hesitate to apply Neo-Sporin to any razor irritation. YMMV of course.

    magicturtle,

Next time, just use some Bay Rum on your beard before shaving. It also helps set up the beard for a good shave, but is more soothing to the skin than electric razor pre-shave.

dude..... sorry to hear of your pain....

hope it heals fast.... that stuff for the electric razors makes the whiskers stiff instead of soft........

    magicturtle,

The complete pre-shave process is, as follows:

Lather your face, then massage the lather into your face with your fingers.
Rinse the lather from face and apply some Bay Rum.
    Re-lather and begin shaving.

Its called the Robeson beard prep method here at SRP--an old standby recommended by the Robeson Shur-Edge Straight Razor Company.

It wasn't Lectric Shave by any chance was it?

I'd recommend holding out on the next shave until the rash and sensitivity have moved on.

Who knows, but it works. It must be the spices in it, or the bay oil. I think the spices are what act as an astringent, but that is just a guess.
