I haven't cut down on my prep after swithing to face lathering, all I have ever done is a hot shower, sometimes with a facial wash, and then I place a wet, hot towel on my face just before lathering. But after swithcing I find that face lathering adds a little to the prep, and I get better lather quicker.

Hello, Ronnie. Face-lathering can be just as efficient as mug-lathering. Nowadays I do it only when traveling, but years ago it was strictly face-lathering. What works best for the shave and the spirit is what matters.

I've always been a face latherer. I find I get the best lather that way. I have a scuttle but really use it only to keep the lather warm when I even use it.

I also face lather exclusively, but I don't skip any beard prep. Either I load the brush from the soap puck, or I palm lather cream, or I do both. But I build lather on my face without the use of a scuttle. It's just easier and quicker than pulling out a scuttle (which I broke about a year ago).

Hi Ronnie,
I bought a antique scuttle and tried face lathering and cold shaving as it was being shipped to me. I still haven't used the scuttle. It looks good sitting on display in my shave den though. Face lathering just feels good, and seems simpler to me. It also made have a lot of fun playing with different boar and a horsehair brush. It also saves time, so I focus more on improving my technique. Soap or cream, it's all the same.
