    Default Face layered for the first time!

    Last night I face lathered for the first time. It was awesome! Much faster and I think a better shave. I'm to the point now where I'm fine tuning my shave, and this is just going to further those ends. I can't imagine how good it would have felt with a silver tip!!

    I started by swirling about 100 times over a Sante de Provence puck. Then started swirling on my face. I got a great slick lather in just 30 seconds or so. I really like it. I don't know why I didn't figure this out before. I guess I thought it was too hard, or didn't work as well, or something else. I don't know why I didn't, but I will keep doing it now!

    I think now that I have two modes of shaving, to wit;

    1. Efficient and effective. Get in and get it done. This now includes a very presentable and VERY smooth one pass shave and my new found face lathering. That's about it.

    2. Relaxing and meditative. This path features loads of lather in a delicate three pass shave. Also nice classical or blues music, hot towel treatment, door locked and slowing way down to enjoy the shave.

    I will still do the second one, but with 4 1/2 kids and working 84+ hrs a week, shaving quickly and just getting it done has it's appeal. I'll save the second one for date nights and special occasions.

    Bottom line, if you haven't tried face lathering, you really owe it to yourself to try it!

    With 4.5 kids and working 84+ hours a week, how do you fit in "date nights"?

    Well...........we don't really. Not nights anyway. Usually it's a date late morning while the kids are at school. Even then we have the baby, soon to be babies. It's all good though. One is bound to be a doctor and will take care of me in my old age. Hahahahahaha. I always laugh when I see "be alone in the bathroom" or "pick an undisturbed time" to shave so you don't get cut. The only time that those apply is like last night: 0005 in the morning. Lol

    Hello, medicevans: There is something to be said about face-lathering. I have gone back and forth on that and bowl-lathering and don't seem to make up my mind. For me, bowl-lathering works quite well with creams. Yet I find myself increasingly returning to face-lathering with soap and using the scuttle to keep the lather warm. When traveling, whether using creams or soaps, face-lathering works just fine.

    Hello, medicevans: Give your moistened brush a couple gentle shakes, squeeze an almond size amount of cream (if from a tube) onto your brush, and the begin to build lather on your face. Monitor the water mixture: add more by dipping the tip of the brush in water, or under the faucet, until you've built a good lather. If you use a tub of cream, wring out the brush, give the cream a few swirls, and lather away, adding more water the same way as before.

    I'm in the same boat. I can lather successfully both ways, yet for some reason I find myself returning to bowl lathering. I find that when using a bowl you can nail the soap/water ratio, and be able to apply the perfect lather to your face right away. Of course, some love the scrubbing feeling of building lather directly on the face. YMMV.

    There is no right or wrong way, only YOUR way.....
